- There’s a possibility that the game might outsell its predecessor too.Â
The agonizing wait for Hollow Knight Silksong is finally coming to an end later this year. After being in the making for close to ten years now, Team Cherry finally revealed information about this game during Gamescom.
Back in the day, even before the sequel to Hollow Knight came into existence, Team Cherry had a Kickstarter in place, where if you pledged a certain amount, you’d get your hands on the game on a platform of your choice once it releases. With the release date for Hollow Knight Silksong soon approaching, the Kickstarter page has finally come under scrutiny once again because, despite it being one of the goals, the game won’t be making it to one specific platform.Â
Hollow Knight Silksong Isn’t Coming to the Nintendo Wii U
The Nintendo Wii U used to be a very popular console back in the day, but once the Switch took off, the company moved past the piece of hardware. Fans, however, have held onto it dearly, despite most games not being made for the console anymore. Hollow Knight Silksong had the Wii U on one of its stretch goals on the Kickstarter page, but unfortunately, it won’t be releasing on the platform anymore.Â
In fact, if you look at the picture, then you’ll realise that Hollow Knight never really received a second playable character, despite it being one of the goals that were actually met. The game was so widely popular that the plans that Team Cherry had for additional updates became too big, and eventually turned into the second game that everyone is so eagerly looking forward to.

In fact, the second playable character, Hornet, is actually the protagonist that you’ll be controlling in Silksong. Since it turned into a sequel, Team Cherry decided to drop all plans to bring it to the Nintendo Wii U. What’s admirable about this is that the developers didn’t really have to follow through with the sequel, but since they’d promised it in the original Kickstarter, they’re going to do it anyway. Although there are a lot of memes about the Wii U release, it’s evident that a lot of players are disappointed with the fact that it won’t be releasing on that piece of hardware.Â

When Does Hollow Knight Silksong Release?
Hollow Knight Silksong is set to release on September 4, 2025 and will be available across all major platforms including both the Nintendo Switch consoles. You’ll also be able to play it on your Mac and Linux-powered desktops. However, if you’re looking for a Wii U release, you’ll have to wait till a third-party port arrives. But that might take some time, and it’s possible that the hardware might not be powerful enough to run the game.Â
Despite so many years of radio silence, the hype behind Hollow Knight Silksong hasn’t died and fans are waiting eagerly to get their hands on this game once and for all. For the first game, Team Cherry sold a whopping 15 million copies. With Silksong, the numbers are bound to exceed its predecessor. The sales figures are so high that it’s compared to the Metroid series, another one title that is widely popular all over the world. The overall has 17 titles so far and has sold over 21,45 million copies. With Silksong expected to surpass its predecessor, Team Cherry will have sold as many copies with just two games, compared to what Metroid did in 17.Â
These numbers are just speculations for now, and with the countdown to Hollow Knight Silksong currently underway, it’s only a matter of time before it starts setting new records of its own.
