GTA 6 is by far the most anticipated release of 2026, but itโ€™ll abandon a traditional feature that has long been associated with the older Grand Theft Auto games. Pre-orders for the game are currently live, and it comes with a pretty expensive price tag, but this has confirmed that the game will definitely be released on November 19, 2026.

While it casts a massive shadow over the entire gaming industry, since no other release will be able to compete with Rockstar, it also brings a huge relief to everyone, as gamers from all over the world have eagerly been waiting for it for a while now. So, hereโ€™s a quick rundown of everything we know so far.

Grand Theft Auto 6 Moves Away From One Key Feature

So far, Rockstar has never experimented with a chapter system with any of its GTA games. Theyโ€™ve done so with the Max Payne series and with Red Dead Redemption 2. Based on what weโ€™ve seen in the Ultimate Edition description for GTA 6, itโ€™s possible that itโ€™ll be adopting the same system here too.

The description for the Ultimate Edition across both PlayStation and Xbox stores, reads as follows: โ€œThis purchase includes the Ultimate Edition Upgrade with exclusive in-game bonuses for Grand Theft Auto VI, available to Jason and Lucia across their story, with new items uncovered behind each chapter.โ€

Itโ€™s not clear how many chapters the game will feature, and how theyโ€™ll be segregated, but theyโ€™ll be chapters nevertheless. Itโ€™s worth seeing how Rockstar brings their Red Dead Redemption formula to GTA and how it affects the narrative.

GTA 6 Is a Single-Player Experience

With preorders now live, the developers have confirmed that GTA 6 will be a single-player experience. This means that GTA Online wonโ€™t be available for this game at launch. What isnโ€™t clear here is whether the game will incorporate the existing online mode or if itโ€™ll get a fresh DLC later on.

Back when GTA Online came along for Grand Theft Auto V, it dropped two weeks after the game initially launched. Rockstar could be following suit this time as well, giving players the time to go through the entire storyline before they venture into the online mode to wreck havoc on the streets of Leonida. Alternatively, the game could abandon the online mode entirely, but that isnโ€™t likely to sit well with the community. Either way, itโ€™s probably a death knell for GTA Online as we know it.

Just Like Its Predecessor, GTA 6 Isnโ€™t Coming to PC At Launch

Rockstar has a weird habit of holding down their GTA games on consoles for a considerable period of time, and Grand Theft Auto 6 is no different. This game wonโ€™t be available on PC at launch. The announced pre-orders will only be available for the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X/S.

While thereโ€™s no confirmed date for a PC release, itโ€™s likely the game will be released on Steam sometime in late 2027 or early 2028. If we were to take GTA V into account, it launched on consoles in 2013 and on PC in 2015. While itโ€™s unclear if Rockstar would want to wait for so long to give PC players a chance to explore Leonida, itโ€™s safe to assume that the game will come to PCs eventually.

That said, there are still concerns about the Steam Machine. While the device hasnโ€™t launched yet, itโ€™s likely that it could be here before GTA VI drops. Will Rockstar announce an edition for it soon, or will it be released when the game finally launches on PC? Only time shall tell the answer to this question.
