Key Highlights:
- Roblox has been banned in Russia recently, which is quite unfortunate.
- The ban has also been met with some protests in Tomsk, Russia.
- There is a workaround, but it involves using a VPN.
Roblox has been in hot water as of late, with the gaming platform taking numerous forms of criticism from (often rightfully) concerned parents and in certain cases, even entire countries, one of which includes Russia, who has chosen to ban the game entirely.
That being said, all might not be lost and there is likely a workaround in place. The existence of the workaround draws some criticism though, as it highlights a serious flaw in the implementation of the ban.
Why Is Roblox Banned in Russia?
Russia has chosen to ban Roblox entirety across its nation earlier in December, 2025. The reasons were cited to be related to the pushing of โinappropriate contentโ on the platform toward impressionable young adults.
This includes sexually explicit content, and the very real presence of predators lurking in the game all of which endanger child safety.
Child safety online is a legitimate concern, and Roblox has seen itself being embroiled in controversy in the past few months as of late, many reasons of which seem to be very justified.

Taking all these factors into account, Russia has chosen to ban the game from its jurisdiction, which was met with mild criticism, some of which holds merit. After all, Russia isnโt particularly known for being the most censorship-free nation in existence, and the Roblox ban could only set a precedent for future video game related censorship campaigns.
The move was also met with some protest earlier today, where a small gathering of residents in Tomsk argued against the ban, marching together with signs. They mentioned Roblox as being a โvictimโ, and of how the platform promotes digital creativity and inspires players to make their own games.
No matter how you slice it though, the ban is unlikely to be overturned any time soon.
