Key Highlights:

  • Square Enix might have a Final Fantasy game up for TGA 2025.
  • The game could either be a Final Fantasy 9 remake or a third entry in the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy.
  • TGA 2025 could also show updated, Switch 2 ports of existing games.

It’s been a while since we’ve had any Final Fantasy related news surface online. Spearheaded by Square Soft (and now Square Enix), the video game franchise has been quite a legendary one, but has fallen to mediocrity as of late, along with a lack of direction.

Square Enix might be looking to change all that soon though, and as per a recent leak, there could potentially be two Final Fantasy games up for showcase during the annual event.

Square Enix Has Two Unlisted YouTube Videos in Its Final Fantasy Playlist

Some of the more eagle eyed readers might have already spotted that Square Enix’s official YouTube channel underwent a strange transition recently. In particular, the Final Fantasy playlist of the channel has two recently added, unlisted videos within it.

The playlist was also updated today, and the timing is very suspect. Upon further inspection though, one of the two trailers has been revealed to be Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core Reunion, which is quite a shame.

This means that there will one only one trailer showcased at The Game Awards 2025, which is a bit of a disappointment.

How This Ties to the Game Awards

The Game Awards is a yearly award ceremony that honors the best of what gaming has to offer for that very year, with the coveted Game Of The Year trophy. That being said, TGA is more than just awards, and the platform has consistently been a great place to showcase upcoming games.

There is little reason to doubt that Square Enix will have a major presence at this year’s Game Awards, and they have historically attended major events thus far. Square Enix is very likely preparing for a major world premiere this year.

TGA 2025 is expected to have all manner of intriguing surprises, and Square Enix’s new Final Fantasy game might just be around the corner, having a first look/reveal trailer during the show.

What to Expect From Final Fantasy at TGA 2025

There’s a bit to unpack here, so buckle up. For starters, we should be getting Nintendo Switch 2 ports of existing Final Fantasy games, including Final Fantasy VII: Remake Integrade, Rebirth and perhaps even a sneaky port of Final Fantasy XVI. Or so it is assumed.

Other than your usual slew of ports, we should be addressing the elephant in the room here. Which is the new Final Fantasy game, which could be either one of the two choices below.

The first and more far fetched one would likely be the rumored Final Fantasy IX remake.

A FF9 remake has been rumored to be in the works for quite some time now, and a return to the series’ roots might be for the better, given how good Final Fantasy 7’s remake trilogy has been so far.

This is a bit far fetched though, given we barely have any additional information on the game existence, or even any screenshots and/or developmental assets to base this on. Even so, the game is likely knee deep in development and needs more time to cook.

The second, and more likely option is Part 3 of the FF7 remake trilogy. Square did mention that they were ready to unveil the game for a multiplatform release way earlier, so it is possible that we could see a release date for Final Fantasy VII Remake: Part 3.
