The LEGO Group is taking a huge leap in its gaming strategy by launching an internal video game development studio. This move shows a departure from the company’s long-standing reliance on external developers like Traveler’s Tales, which has been responsible for many beloved LEGO games since 2025, including titles based on Star Wars, Harry Potter, Marvel, and more.
According to a report by The Guardian, LEGO is planning to increase its investment in digital play by forming its own game development team. This initiative aligns with the company’s broader vision of integrating digital experiences with its iconic physical brick sets, which offer a seamless blend of interactive play. While no specific game projects have been announced yet, LEGO describes this investment as a “multi-year journey.”
The decision follows LEGO’s recent collaboration with studios outside of Travele’s Tales. In 2023, LEGO 2K Drive, developed by WWE 2K25 studio Visual Concepts, received mixed reactions due to its live-service elements. Meanwhile, LEGO Horizon Adventures, created by Guerrilla Games and Studio Gobo, reimagined the Horizon series in a fun, minifigure-styled adventure.
With this new in-house studio, LEGO is expected to explore fresh gaming opportunities, possibly delving into sports or racing titles. There is speculation about potential collaboration with major brands like Nike and F1. Meanwhile, rumors suggest Traveler’s Tales is still working on a new LEGO title set for release next year.
