Sony is reportedly preparing to release a new God of War title set in Ancient Greece later this year. According to insider Jeff Grubb, this upcoming release won’t be a remastered collection of the original trilogy, but rather a fresh side story that promises to revisit Kratos’ origins in a bold new way.
Grubb’s comments surfaced on Bluesky after the 20th anniversary of God of War passed without any major announcements. While responding to a fan’s most-asked questions about a remastered collection, Grubb clarified that, “Everyone keeps asking about this, so I’ve tried to find out more: there’s still a Greek God Of War thing coming out this year, but it’s not a remaster collection. It’s a new side story project.”
“I was never told about a remaster collection, but I asked a source about the rumours (that I saw were focused on a collection) and they told me that nothing God Of War would happen at the State Of Play but something could show up at the anniversary,” he added further.
While details remain undisclosed, the side story is drawing comparisons to standalone expansions like Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, which suggest a more compact but meaningful narrative.
There is a buzz in the community that the game might explore the untold chapters of Kratos’ turbulent relationship with his father, Zeus, which possibly revisits the mythology that defined the original trilogy.
