Key Highlights
- Battlefield 6 will likely avoid outlandish weapon camos and operator skins.
- This idea could help solidify the game as an authentic military shooter.
- It also suggests that EA has understood what the player base really wants.
Being a live-service FPS title, Battlefield 6 was bound to receive camos for its weapons. While the weapons will receive cosmetics of their own, leaks suggest that theyโll be deviating from the type of camos that Call of Duty was infamous for.ย
For FPS games, camos have always been a touchy subject, and every community is divided into two groups on this matter. However, selling in-game cosmetics is a revenue model that most developers rely upon, and in certain cases, itโs what helps these games survive in the longer run. With the launch soon approaching, Battlefield 6 is trying to establish itself as a title which offers an authentic military shooter experience, something which people believe, Call of Duty, fails to offer.ย
Leaked Battlefield 6 Weapon Camos Hint At a More Authentic Experience
Earlier this month, a Battlefield dev mentioned that their game is a โmilitary shooter in modern times.โ And while this doesnโt explicitly suggest that they wonโt be having any over-the-top cosmetics, it does indeed suggest that the game will try to hold on to what it believes is an authentic military shooter experience.ย
While it would be completely wrong to eliminate the experience that Call of Duty provides, especially with the gunplay and the mechanics, the skins and weapon cosmetics are indeed outlandish. No one wants to run around as King Shark in the middle of a warzone. However, the community is indeed divided on this.ย
One half believes that these cosmetics enhance the experience that the game provides, while the other half believes that itโs absolutely unnecessary. One could also compare this to Fortnite, but then again, that has a completely different approach altogether. However, when it comes to collaborations, itโs Fortnite that started the trend first, and the rest of the world followed suit, because who wouldnโt want to play a game as their favorite comic book character or super hero?ย

Despite there being an argument for both sides of the spectrum, thereโs no denying that these skins sell, so itโs only natural for the developers to bank on these products to generate revenue for their video game. Yes, Fortnite and Call of Duty are both shooters, but theyโre spiritually different titles with entirely different mechanics and fanbases. The latter, by trying to replicate the formerโs business model, lost a certain amount of traction amongst fans.ย

Earlier this year in April, once Activision launched Verdansk, Call of Dutyโs player count saw a significant jump. However, the developers were quick to note that the crossovers, despite printing money, were making the game look stupid.ย

By moving away from whacky skins with Battlefield 6, EA shows that it knows what its players want. However, itโll be worth seeing for how long they hold onto this stance. The company is infamous for its microtransactions, so it could just be a matter of time before they introduce a loot box system in Battlefield 6.ย
Either way, the leaked weapon camo designs are clean, simple, and to some extent, artistic too, which is something that Call of Duty camos of yore used to be. Not only are these designs refreshing, theyโre easy on the eyes, and will definitely not be pay-to-win or pay-to-lose. Certain Call of Duty camos were so weird that they would restrict your field of view, making it difficult to land hits on the enemy. In other cases, some designs were so dimly lit or blended into the environment well, making it hard to spot the enemy.ย
These Battlefield 6 skins, however, are taken from a leak at the end of the day. So, thereโs always a possibility that some of them might not make it to the final version when it launches in October, later this year.
