New Xbox Cloud Gaming Controller Leaked; Potential Specs, Design & More Revealed

  • New leaks of an Xbox controller for cloud gaming are circulating on the internet.
  • Controversary around the controllers design being very similar to some other brands controller.
  • Leaks on the design and specification of the controller.

Xbox is developing a new controller designed for cloud gaming, featuring Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity. It may streamline connections to Xbox Cloud Gaming servers, enhancing the gaming experience despite existing latency issues.

Rumours Are Finally Coming Together

Cloud gaming has been a big focus for Microsoft and the Xbox division for several years, and the company has been rumored to be working on a new controller to help with this initiative. It looks like images for the peripheral have leaked, but compared to the standard Xbox Wireless Controller that has been in action for over five years, this new model looks to be a polarizing new design.

Rumours were going around for a while that Xbox has been building some sort of new controller, with numerous reports debating its exact nature. At one point, there was a mention of a simple controller update that included features like waking your Xbox as soon as you pick up the controller. Later on, came rumours of a Cloud controller intended on making it even easier to stream games now, we have proof.

Where These Leaks Are Coming From?

Brazilian regulator Tecnoblog has seemingly leaked a new Xbox controller made specifically for Xbox Cloud Gaming. Images of the new controller were published on Tecnoblog, and while it’s still unclear as to when this controller could hit the market, not only does it look like it’ll be ready for launch soon, but it also looks like Xbox took a page or two from 8BitDo’s book of controller making.

The Design Looks Very Similar To 8BitDo

The face of the new gamepad and its finish are both reminiscent of 8BitDo’s style of controller, so much so that when it is officially revealed, it may just be another controller made in collaboration with the two companies, since 8BitDo has made several officially licensed Xbox controllers. If it wasn’t made in collaboration with 8BitDo, then at the very least Microsoft and Xbox picked up some pointers from the third-party controller maker.

Leaked Specifications Of The New Controller

According to the report, the controller comes equipped with support for Bluetooth 5.3, a USB-C port, a 500mAH rechargeable battery, and most significantly, support for 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi connectivity. Also, as you can see in the image above, it also comes with two asymmetrical thumb sticks, four ABXY face buttons, two bumpers, two triggers, and the same D-pad found on standard Xbox controllers.

The support for Wi-Fi connectivity is part of what tips this controller off as being made especially for Xbox Cloud Gaming. It’ll connect directly to the Cloud Gaming servers when in use to reduce latency and help ensure you’re getting the smoothest experience possible while playing. A method we’ve seen previously with the fallen Google Stadia, which did the same thing with its controller. At the top of the controller is an additional button, theorized to be for pairing to a compatible device. Internally, the controller is said to be equipped with Realtek RTL8730E hardware and two 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A7 cores, and the photos show off black and white colorways.

It’s the overall shape of the controller that may raise eyebrows, as it features a small but wide design that doesn’t look too ergonomic. It has a distinctly third-party look, but in comparison to what a company like 8BitDo produces, it doesn’t quite look like a premium option. It’s worth noting that the Xbox Series X|S Wireless Controller is fully compatible with Xbox Cloud Gaming on PCs, smart TVs, and mobile devices, with both USB-C and Bluetooth connectivity depending on the platform. These come in a wide variety of color options, including a new Forza Horizon 6 variant with neon gradients.
