Valheim is finally leaving Early Access this September and enter full release. Fans are excited for the official 1.0 launch, which brings a highly anticipated frozen biome, full cross platform play, and new console releases.
However, the announcement completely ignores a major player’s complaint of the infamous “slot tax.” For years players have struggled with essential gear eating up tight inventory space. While the community looks forward to these massive upgrades, many are disappointed that a fix for this basic survival inventory remains nowhere in sight.
A New Era Begins In Valheim Deep North The Road To 1.0
The massive announcement at the PC Gaming Show confirms that Valheim will officially launch its 1.0 version on September 9, 2026. This major milestone marks the end of over five years of Early Access development by Iron Gate Studio. Fans around the world are incredibly excited to see the survival game reach its full finished state soon. The key highlight of the 1.0 launch is the Deep North, which serves as Valheim’s final official biome expansion. This frozen wasteland introduces unique survival mechanics and challenging gameplay elements that will test even the most experienced players. The environment itself is a major obstacle, forcing players to craft special shovels to clear heavy snow to build a base.
However, new threats that player needs to be cautious of include giant primordial trolls called “Gammeltrolls” that serve as ancient guardians of the frozen land, Sinister Elakingar devils that live deep underground tunnels, and wild animals like rampaging moose roam the snowy plains. Beyond the icy new content, the 1.0 release is expanding to brand-new console platforms. Valheim will launch on both the PlayStation 5 and the Nintendo Switch 2. To keep the community united, Iron Gate is implementing full cross-platform play across all available systems. This means PC, Linux, Mac, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo players can all seamlessly host servers and build villages together without any restrictions.

Community excitement is on another level for the full release of Valheim Deep North on Reddit. Players are particularly stoked about the promise of new magic summoner builds, tameable mounts, and the freedom to finally play with friends on other consoles and a “Very Positive” reputation on Steam and proving that fans cannot wait to dive back into this legendary Viking world.

Valheim’s Unresolved Slot Tax And Why Fans Are Still Begging for Separate Gear Slots
For years players have asked Iron Gate Studio to fix the infamous “slot tax” inventory problem. In Valheim your character has a very small grid to hold items. The issue is that your essential gear like heavy armor, capes, swords, shields, and tools takes up the exact same slots as the resources you chop, mine, and gather. By the time players get fully dressed and bring basic tools for a trip, nearly half of their inventory space is completely gone before they even pick up a single piece of wood or stone.
HOW can this game still not include Equipment Slots?

This space issue makes exploring very frustrating for players. Fans have long requested a simple quality of life fix, such as dedicated equipment slots that keep armor separate from backpack storage. But sadly, the developers have stayed completely silent on this issue for the 1.0 launch. Players will have to brave the freezing weather of the Deep North while still fighting a messy inventory screen. Now the new heavy snowdrifts and shovel tools will just add even more items to their already crowded pockets.
