Ocarina of Time Remake Lands November 5, and You Can Hum Along the Songs

Ocarina of Time Remake Arrives Two Weeks Before GTA VI Ocarina of Time Remake Arrives Two Weeks Before GTA VI

Nintendo has announced that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will release on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, placing the remake two weeks ahead of Rockstar Gamesโ€™ Grand Theft Auto VI, which is scheduled for November 19. The date came during a 30-minute Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct on September 8, where series producer Eiji Aonuma showed the first gameplay. The game costs $59.99.

The timing has drawn attention because both are among the most anticipated November releases, although they are arriving on different platforms and occupy very different genres. Ocarina of Time is a remake of Nintendoโ€™s 1998 Nintendo 64 adventure, while GTA VI is a new open-world crime game from Rockstar. The November dates put the two titles close together on the 2026 release calendar without making them direct platform competitors.

Zelda Ocarina of Time Remake Gets November Release Date

Nintendo confirmed the November 5 date through its official announcement on X, which describes the game as an adventure through Hyrule in which players become the โ€œHero of Time.โ€ The announcement was accompanied by a gameplay reveal showing the updated version of the 1998 game.

This is a ground-up rebuild rather than a remaster. The original remains available through Nintendo Switch Online’s N64 library. The rebuild adds fully voiced cutscenes, symphonic orchestral music, expanded NPC dialogue, a free-moving camera, a dedicated jump button replacing auto-jump, and a roll or dash ability. The most distinctive addition uses the Switch 2’s built-in microphone. Players can hum, sing or play a real ocarina to perform the game’s songs, replacing the original’s button sequences. A new “Threads of Time” menu tracks story progress and the next objective.

Nintendo is also using the remake as part of a wider 40th-anniversary program for the Zelda series. The Direct also revealed a Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Switch 2, with Triforce motifs across the system, dock and Joy-Con 2, plus a themed Pro Controller and carrying case. The console arrives a week before the game and does not include it.

The release date has also become a discussion point among Zelda players because of its proximity to GTA VI. Online discussions have focused on the two-week gap, although some players have pointed out that the games are on different platforms and appeal to different audiences.

Zelda and GTA VI Land Two Weeks Apart

The timing gives the Ocarina of Time remake an unusual position in the November release schedule. Nintendoโ€™s game is set for November 5, while Rockstar Games has announced GTA VI for November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstarโ€™s official game page lists the November 19 release date and the two console platforms, leaving 14 days between the two launches.

Ocarina of Time will be available on Nintendo Switch 2, while GTA VI is currently announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That means the games are not competing for the same hardware at launch. Players who own multiple consoles could also purchase both games, making the comparison more about the release calendar than a direct platform contest. The November schedule nevertheless means the two games will occupy the same news cycle. The proximity has already prompted jokes and comparisons online, but there is no indication from either Nintendo or Rockstar that the release dates were chosen as part of a direct competition between the companies.

The Zelda anniversary itself extends beyond the remake. Nintendo also revealed details about the upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda movie, which will use an original story and is scheduled to arrive in 2027.
