Overwatch has officially begun a new Junkrat Loot Hunt event featuring double Battle Pass XP gains through the event. This double weekend event should give Overwatch players plenty of reasons to log in ahead of the mid Season 2 update.
Filler Event Before The New Season Release
Junkratโs Loot Hunt is a filler event that Overwatch periodically brings back to add some extra incentive to log in during downtime periods. By playing games during the event, fans can earn up to nine free Loot Boxes. When the event first took place in June 2025, it featured daily milestones in which one had to play a certain number of games each day to earn their Loot Boxes, but it was changed in later iterations to allow progress to carry over throughout the weekend.

Overwatch Double XP Junkratโs Loot Hunt
Junkratโs Loot Hunt is back once more to carry players through the first half of Reign of Talon Season 2. From now until May 12, players can earn up to nine free Loot Boxes simply by playing games. However, this event has an exciting change: during the event, Battle Pass XP gains from matches will be doubled as well, making the event twice as fun and rewarding.

The match progress on Junkratโs Loot Hunt uses the gated progression system seen in other events recently, including the Overwatch x Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred crossover. Each Loot Box is earned after five games, with Stadium matches and victories each counting for double progress. That said, progress on the next Loot Box doesnโt open until the last one is earned. If a player has four of five required games towards a Loot Box, extra progress will not carry over to the next Loot Box challenge if they win their game.

Meanwhile, the XP boost specifically applies to the Battle Pass XP Overwatch fans earn from completing matches. Typically, finishing a match grants between 700 and 1,000 Battle Pass XP, with extra awarded for victories and longer games. Playing in a group adds an extra 20% boost, while queuing for in-demand roles adds a flat 100 to 500 extra XP. This is all multiplied by the double XP boost, meaning players who capitalize on all of these bonuses can easily earn more than 2,000 Battle Pass XP for a victorious match.
Wrapping Up
This double buff event is arriving at the perfect time. Overwatch Reign of Talon Season 2 began on April 15 and lasts until June 16, which means the mid season update will most likely happen on May 12, right when Junkratโs Loot Hunt ends. While players donโt know everything coming in this update, Jetpack Cat will be coming to Stadium, and Ra Ana, the support heroโs second Mythic skin, will be added to the shop. Beyond that, a new slew of balance adjustments will be implemented, likely including some more fine tuning for Sierra, the deadly DPS hero added to Overwatch this season.

With Season 3 just over a month away, it wonโt be long before fans start seeing hints of what else is coming to Overwatch soon, including the next hero. Overwatch leaks suggest they will be a Damage hero similar to Cassidy, so gamers will have to wait and see how accurate those rumors are when the character is officially revealed.
