Metaphor ReFantazio Livestream Sparks Rumors of a Definitive Version Release

Key Highlights:

  • Metaphor ReFantazio has a livestream scheduled for this week.
  • There might be a chance we get to see a definitive release of the game.
  • The game was incredibly popular and earned all of its praise.

Itโ€™s been nearly a year since Atlusโ€™ Metaphor ReFantazio was released worldwide, across both console and PC. This particular JRPG was lauded on its release, earning very positive reviews from both critics and fans alike, with many calling it Atlusโ€™ best work to date.

Now, Atlus seems to be preparing a livestream in order to commemorate the release of Metaphor, on account of its one year anniversary. Pushing forward a livestream isnโ€™t exactly unusual, but it could be that Atlus has a few surprises planned for us.

When and Where to Watch the Metaphor ReFantazio Livestream

The Metaphor ReFantazio livestream is scheduled for October 11, 2025 at exactly 1 PM JST (Japan Standard Time). As time zones are a thing, the exact starting time will vary depending on your current region.

The livestream will be hosted on both Atlusโ€™ official YouTube channel and Steam page. As always, there may be a bit of a delay in the presentation due to unforeseen technical issues – if there any.

As far as the length of the entire presentation goes, expect it to last for about an hour to an hour and a half. This presentation is going to be razor focused on Metaphor ReFantazio alone, so donโ€™t go expecting any additional Persona related announcements (although, I would be happy to be proven wrong).

We Might Be Getting a Definitive Version of the Game, as Is Tradition With Atlus

Atlus has a pretty bad habit of rereleasing its older games, and weโ€™re not talking about remakes here. Anyone familiar with Atlusโ€™ release schedule will know that they tend to release a โ€˜definitiveโ€™ version of their game about a year or two after its initial launch.

These re-releases are of pretty high quality too, bringing with them new content (in the form of playable sections, newer party members and quality of life improvements) and next gen ports and/or ports to additional platforms.

Holding an anniversary for what is perhaps one of the most successful and critically acclaimed JRPGs for Atlus is no mere coincidence. Atlus could very likely be announcing an enhanced port of the original game with extra content for all existing platforms, as well as a native Nintendo Switch 2 port.

Still, it does make you wonder why they couldnโ€™t release these updates as additional DLCs for the base game instead, assuming they donโ€™t break tradition.

What Is Metaphor ReFantazio?

Released on October 11, 2024 Metaphor ReFantazio is a JRPG developed by Studio Zero and published by Sega. The game was known as Project Re:Fantasy internally prior to its reveal, and was first announced back in December 2016.

The game hands players control over a mute protagonist (in traditional JRPG fashion), and is set in the fictional United Kingdom of Euchronia. Metaphor features heavy medieval fantasy themes and a bombastic soundtrack to go along with it.

Upon release, the game was an instant success, managing to sell over a million copies at launch. This was further bolstered by a series of reviews that hailed it as one of the best titles from Atlus to date, which is particularly impressive given that it is a standalone title.

It went on to become massively popular, and was nominated for Game of The Year at Geoff Keighleyโ€™s Game of The Year show in 2024. It lost to Astro Bot, but managed to snag the Best Role Playing Game award, which it very rightfully deserves.
