Megabonk is Steamโs newest viral hit indie game, and has managed to take over the storefront by storm. The premise of Megabonk is simple but effective, supplying players with an endless selection of enemies and rewards to choose from, in an addictive, dopamine induced combat loop.
If anything, the game reminds you of a 3D version of Vampire Survivors,ย another viral hit that still manages to maintain a decent player count. There are a few nuanced differences though, that make Megabonk stand out as a unique title in its own regard.
Megabonk Crosses Over a Million Units Sold in Just Two Weeks Since Its Launch on Steam
Developer vedinadโs roguelike survival game, Megabonk has been making numbers on Steam, climbing to new heights with over a million copies sold thus far, since its initial September 18, 2025 release.
For reference, the game has over 72,000 concurrent players on Steam, and has had a 24 hour peak of 103,819 as per recent SteamDB charts. This is a very impressive number.
This is backed up by a 92.05% Positive user rating on Steam, based on a rather massive 24,000 reviews. A large part of this appears to be backed by hype and word of mouth, but Megabonk is a rather unique game fulfilling a particular niche that appears to have now gone viral.
This is even more impressive once you consider the fact that Megabonk debuted during a very competitive period, one that was dominated by the blockbuster indies such as Hades 2 and Hollow Knight: Silksong, making this feat a lot more remarkable.
Vampire Survivors Is a Clear Source of Inspiration Here
Thereโs no denying that Megabonk is basically a 3D version of Vampire Survivors, right down to its presentation and gameplay progression. As per its Steam page, Megabonk is described as a โroguelike survival gameโ where players demolish enemy hordes (and bosses) and are rewarded with powerups and loot which boost their progression..
All levels are randomly generated, and enemies spawn infinitely, with increasing difficulty. You will have to quite literally fight to the death here and make your way to the higher levels as quickly as you can, to earn that gamer cred or high score.
The parallels between this game and Vampire Survivors are quite obvious at first glance, and thatโs really not a bad thing. As good as Vampire Survivors is, it is, in the end, a 2D, sprite based roguelite whose presentation might not be appealing for a lot of folks (along with its gameplay), which is something Megabonk tries to correct by going mainstream a little.

That being said, adding in a whole new dimension of movement and control shakes up things by a fair bit, and Megabonk stands out as a rather unique, but familiar experience.
This might just be the perfect game for Vampire Survivors fans who are looking for a fresh experience right out of the box.
Itโs not perfect though, and there are more than a few areas the game could do well to improve upon, particularly in regard to game balance and progression. With that in mind, it’s still a very satisfactory experience and one that should keep players hooked, despite its very, very affordable entry price of only $9.99 (even lower if you consider regional pricing, which it does have!).
