The viral paint-and-hide multiplayer game Meccha Chameleon is one of the most-played games on Steam. Developed by Lemoroion_1224, a Japanese solo indie developer, the game crossed the trending Steam charts with over 209,667 concurrent players. That is a number most AAA launches wish to touch, along with the fact that the game is developed from a one-person studio with a budget price and almost no pre-release attention.
Meccha Chameleon launched on June 10, with a peak of around 15,000 concurrent players. Here’s why the game is off to a good start and why you should consider getting it at the earliest.
Meccha Chameleon Incredible Sales, Growth Journey & Why It Worked
Not just active player-base, but supporting these numbers is the game’s sales of over 2 million, an achievement which the developed recently shared. These trajectory put’s the game at first place on Japan’s Steam sales charts, ahead of Forza Horizon 6 and Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade.
Globally, the casual indie game is sitting at second place, which is a rare sight from a solo developer climbing that high that fast. One of the main reasons why the game skyrocketed among gamers is because of both the gameplay and the streamers enjoying it.

The latest hit is defined as a simple multiplayer game which brings friends together, and given that we’ve previously similar games perform with this concept (take Prop Hunt), it isn’t unfathomable to understand why the game connects. Adding to this was (and still is) the element of streamers.

On launch day, Meccha Chameleon drew a peak of 123,656 viewers on Twitch. Since the game drives players to paint themselves on a doorway, wall or a statue and get spotted at the last second, it brings in both chaos and fun. Popular streamers picked up on it immediately, and the viewership directly fed into sales. A simple, funny, watchable premise turning viewers into buyers, and the same buyers into next round of clips.
Why $4.79 Is A Good Steal, Until Tonight
Meccha Chameleon’s base price is of $5.99, but currently at a 20% off launch discount bringing it to $4.79, or ยฃ4.23. However, this promotion ends June 16.
At under five dollars, the value case is pretty good of a deal. Given its solid concurrent players, you can get full lobbies without waiting for a match. Moreover, the developer is also still shipping updates, as well as catering to requested features. One such example is the direct friend invites. Adding to this are new maps which are reportedly in development.
