Officially titled as the โClosed Technical Testโ, this particular run is expected to give players a taste of what they can expect from Bungie – with an NDA to go along with it.
Interestingly, the game was meant to have been released back in September of this year, before being pushed back indefinitely thanks to a series of controversies, including mentions of plagarism.

This is a particularly important milestone for Bungie, and the technical test is expected to showcase major improvements from the alpha, along with a few new additions (such as new maps, runners, proximity chat and more).
As was the case with prior technical tests, this particular test will also require players to sign an NDA. This means that players will not be able to publicly disclose any information on the current build, including but not limited to screenshots, gameplay footage and the like.
Marathon Was Supposed to Have Been Released Last Month
The initial launch date for Bungieโs Marathon was supposed to be on Sepetember 23, 2025. The game was meant to be released across the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC platforms, with a fully featured, working build in tow.
Unfortunately, that never came to pass. Marathon was plagued with many controversies, including concerns of mediocre gameplay, combined with the fact that Bungie was trying to sell it as a โfull pricedโ game – when it should have been a free to play title to begin with.
However, the whole plagiarism scandal made things a whole lot worse. Bungie officially admitted to these claims, and were forced to head back to the drawing board and recalibrate the gameโs assets.
Naturally, this caused a significant delay in the pipeline, and Marathon was put on ice indefinitely. While it’s nice to see the game gain more traction (finally), it does make you wonder if Bungie will ever be able to outgrow the shadow of plagiarism.
