Purported Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay footage has surfaced online just days before Rockstar Games is scheduled to provide another official look at the game. The clips, first published by a leaker or group calling itself CYBERLEEK, appear to show protagonist Jason Duval playing basketball and later becoming involved in a roadside confrontation with an NPC. The material has since circulated across X, Reddit and other online communities, with many uploads removed following DMCA takedowns from Take-Two.
Rockstar has not publicly confirmed the authenticity or age of the footage. Reports examining the files have suggested that at least some of the material could come from an older development build. That distinction is important, as the footage should not necessarily be viewed as representative of the version of GTA 6 currently being prepared for release.
Leaked GTA 6 Clips Show Jason Playing Basketball and Fighting an NPC
One of the clips appears to show Jason at a residential property before he moves toward a nearby basketball hoop and begins shooting. The sequence shows Jason handling the ball and taking several shots before the basketball rolls away toward what appears to be a body of water. The footage provides a look at what appears to be a basketball activity within the open world. It also shows the ball continuing to move after Jason stops interacting with it, although the short clip does not establish how the activity or its physics will function in the finished game.

A second purported gameplay clip shows Jason driving a pickup truck or similar vehicle before colliding with another vehicle resembling a small delivery or postal truck. Following the collision, Jason and the other driver appear to leave their vehicles and begin fighting. Jason can then be seen using what appears to be a wrench during the confrontation.

A two-star wanted level appears, on a meter showing six stars rather than the five used in GTA 5, after which Jason returns to his vehicle and drives away as the clip ends. The sequence has attracted attention because several systems appear to chain together within a short encounter. A vehicle collision leads to an NPC confrontation, the fight develops into a melee encounter, and a police response appears to follow. The footage does not establish whether these systems are complete or whether they will work in exactly the same way at launch.

The clips have continued to circulate on social media despite the takedowns. An X post discussing the footage and a Reddit discussion about another purported GTA 6 gameplay clip are among the posts where the material and its contents have been discussed.

Reports Suggest The Footage May Come From an Older Development Build
The age of the leaked footage is one of the main questions surrounding the material. Metadata analysis reported by Insider Gaming suggests that at least one of the leaked files was encoded using software associated with FFmpeg 6.1, a build released in November 2023. Leaker NateTheHate said the clips are over a year old and likely from 2024, and not tied to the GTA 6 preview events now running. The encoding information does not, by itself, establish when the gameplay was recorded. A file can be processed or converted at a later date than the original footage, meaning the metadata should not be treated as definitive proof that the gameplay was captured in 2023.
That leaves the exact age of the clips unclear. If they do come from an earlier stage of development, however, the material may differ from the current version of GTA 6 in areas such as graphics, animations, interface elements, performance and gameplay systems. The timing of the leak is also notable. Rockstar has announced Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, premiering on Netflix on August 27 at 3 p.m. ET and arriving on Rockstar’s YouTube channel and the GTA 6 site at 9 p.m. ET the same day. The game is currently scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Rockstar and Take-Two have been issuing takedowns against copies of the purported footage from online platforms. Those takedowns indicate that the companies are responding to the circulating material, but they do not by themselves amount to a public confirmation of its authenticity. For now, the clips offer an unverified look at what appears to be an earlier version of GTA 6. Rockstar’s presentation on August 27 should provide a more current look at the game and may offer additional context for how much the project has changed since the material was captured.
