Key highlights:ย
- Clair Obscur Expedition 33 could get a Nintendo Switch 2 release.ย
- However, itโs hard to say when that release will happen at this point.ย
- Itโs believed that the developers havenโt received the development kits for the Switch 2, which is why there hasnโt been any announcement about the port.ย
Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is one of the most popular games to have released this year. Despite being a turn-based RPG, it has a lot of elements that make it a strong contender for the Game of the Year award. Despite the popularity, itโs still avoided one major platform: the Nintendo Switch 2.ย
Although the game was released before Nintendo dropped their new console, it should have ideally been ported already. This also led a lot of people to wonder if Nintendo had decided to not bring the game on their platform at all. However that doesnโt seem to be the case at all.
Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Could Come to Nintendo Switch 2
While Nintendo hasnโt made any explicit statement about this, a third-party website called Nintenderos has stated that Sandfall Interactive, the developers behind the game, have expressed interest in bringing their title to the console. A Switch 2 port would not only give the game a fresh lease of life, itโd also get a fresh financial boost.ย
Although the reason behind this delayed port is currently unknown, itโs believed that developers are having a hard time receiving development kits for the Switch 2. Without these kits, itโs nearly impossible to make a port to any console. If this rumor is true, then thereโs always a possibility that many popular third-party games in the future will be delayed on Nintendoโs latest console.
Sandfall Interactive expressing interest to port their game to the platform lends some truth to the rumor, but there could be some other reason holding the Clair Obscur Expedition 33 from arriving on that platform.ย

It would be wrong to not bring the game to Nintendoโs console because itโs one of the highest rated games of this year. Itโs got a very unique world and a very unique approach to turn-based combat as well. While it would be wrong to call this genre defining, itโs definitely different from games like Persona or even Shin Megami Tensei. For a title that is so unique, it deserves to reach a wider audience.
Can Nintendo Switch 2 Run Clair Obscur Expedition 33?
The Switch 2 is a powerful console, and can definitely run Clair Obscur Expedition 33. Although the console isnโt without its own flaws, that wonโt hold it back from running the game smoothly. Additionally, whenever a new game is ported to a different platform, itโs adjusted keeping in mind the limitations of the device. With all that said, thereโs no reason for the Nintendo Switch 2 to not be able to run the turn-based RPG.ย
However, if we were to circle back to the rumor of developers not receiving development kits for the platform, it does raise some pressing questions. If Nintendo is indeed suppressing these development kits, is it possible that they want to actively discourage development for their console? Does this also mean that theyโd want the Switch 2 to be exclusively for Nintendo games?
Thereโs also the possibility that Nintendo would want the developers to port it to the Switch instead, and then go ahead with backwards compatibility. Although thatโs one way to go about it, there could be considerable performance issues. Additionally, with the new console already in the market, itโs difficult to say if players would want to buy games on an old platform if they were planning on switching to a new console anyway.
If this is the approach that Nintendo is taking with most ports to the new console, itโs safe to say that not just Clair Obscur Expedition 33, but a lot of other games will not be coming to the Switch 2 anytime soon.ย
