  • Bloodborne Is Finally Getting The Movie Adaptation.
  • Rise of video game movies and shows in recent years.
  • JackSepticEye involved in the making of the film.

While many fans are still hoping to see the return of Bloodborne after 11 years of its release, most have been excited for any new update from Sony and FromSoftware’s dark horror adventure. Interestingly, multiple rumours of remakes and adaptation had been widely circulated online, which has now been confirmed by Sony themselves. This was done at CinemaCon, a trade show for the movie industry currently taking place in Las Vegas.

Sony confirmed the film will be both R-rated and animated rather than live action, both of which are positive signs for the filmโ€™s success. The most surprising announcement though came from the filmโ€™s producer, who is none other than YouTuber Seรกn โ€œJacksepticeyeโ€ McLoughlin. McLoughlin has been an devoted YouTube content creator for years now with plenty of horror game playthroughs under his belt, including Bloodborne.

In a post on Reddit the creator confirmed their position as producer saying: “I am going to do everything in my power to make this the best Bloodborne adaptation possible. Not only is it my favourite game ever made but I know how truly passionate the fans of this game are.”

Details on the plot havenโ€™t been shared at the time of writing, but given how nonsensical Bloodborneโ€™s story is itโ€™s going to be quite a challenge. A lot of what makes Bloodborne intriguing is the mystery of it all. It delves deep into the supernatural and has players questioning if what theyโ€™re seeing is real or illusionary. Some creative liberties are likely to be taken to make the film make sense to general audiences, but itโ€™s bound to be a wild ride either way.

Video Game Film Adaptations Are On The Rise

Weโ€™re officially in a golden era for video game film adaptations. Bloodborne getting the big screen treatment is exciting but it joins so many other games getting a similar service. There are the big wins like The Super Mario Bros movies and the Sonic The Hedgehog trilogy, and then there are delightful indie flicks like Markiplierโ€™s Iron Lung that pleasantly surprise audiences with their quality.

This marks the third adaptation of a FromSoftware game. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is getting a stylish anime, while Elden Ring is getting a live-action movie. Recent leaks from the Elden Ring set have revealed that it will be set post the Shattering, meaning we’ll see The Lands Between in the same state as it was in the game. Bloodborne’s Victorian-era setting and Lovecraftian horror vibe will arguably suit an animated adaptation better than a live-action one. Considering the moon itself is a boss you can fight, adapting the beloved game into live action, especially with the R-rated stamp, may not work out too well.

Bloodborne isnโ€™t even the only video game Sony has a hand in adapting either as The Legend of Zelda live-action film will also be produced by Sony Pictures. You can read more about the Zelda live-action film in our article here . The company also revealed at CinemaCon that filming has officially wrapped, so we can expect a trailer sooner or later.

Wrapping Up

While recent game adaptations have been incredibly popular, it remains to be seen how Bloodborne is received. It’s not a remaster, a PS5 60fps update, or a sequel. It’s unclear if FromSoftware is even involved, although it seems likely given the respectful relationship between FromSoftware and PlayStation. Perhaps the movie serves as a catalyst for an expansion of the Bloodborne IP. Ultimately, the Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group has flagged its growing confidence in game-to-film adaptations, even for complex IP like Bloodborne. Whether it satisfies expectations for FromSoftwareโ€™s cult classic or instead reinterprets its nightmare logic for a new medium, it underscores how PlayStation Productions is expanding its transmedia strategy.
