Battlefield is on a roll, launching to tremendously high numbers on Steam, which it (so far) has managed to maintain weeks after its release. EA does seem eager to keep the ball rolling though, and the upcoming Battlefield: RedSec aims to herald in a new era of battle royale shooters.
However, despite the hype surrounding its launch, and its free to play nature, Battlefield: RedSec has managed to have a disappointing start on Steam, where it currently holds a Mixed rating.
Battlefield Redsec Disappoints Fans on Steam
A quick look at the gameโs SteamDB ratings reveals a rather worrying trend for Battlefield as of late. In particular, this free to play battle royale game mode (RedSec) has accumulated a 43.68% overall rating on Steam, earning it the โMixedโ status.
Half the reviews paint a positive picture, while most of the negative reviews seem to be centered around the fact that RedSecโs gameplay loop and progression appear to be more mature in comparison.

Itโs quite the strange argument, but Steam reviews have never been known to be accurate to be quite honest, at least during the initial launch stages.
RedSec is a DLC add on for Battlefield 6, which has helped the base game soar to unprecedented heights thanks to its free to play nature. That being said, this is nowhere near as the impressive 700,000+ active players seen during launch, but this can be attributed to the game wearing out on newcomers, and of its player base stabilizing over time.
