Battlefield 6 Goes Free to Play With Redsec; Check Complete DEETS Here

Battlefield 6 Battlefield 6

Key Highlights:

  • Battlefield 6 is set to receive a battle royale game mode.
  • Known as Battlefield: RedSec, this is a separate game.
  • RedSec is expected to be a free to play title.

Battlefield 6 has been off to a very strong start, amassing record breaking numbers on Steam and other supported platforms (such as the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5). Itโ€™s safe to say that the game has shattered expectations, and will continue to do so, if certain rumors are to be believed.

Battlefield 6 is scheduled to receive a new update in the form of a dedicated battle royale mode, which has been mentioned to be free-to-play. This exciting update might just be what the franchise needs to crush Call of Duty.

Battlefield 6 Will Release RedSec, a Free to Play Battle Royale Mode

Battlefield 6 has been a tremendous success, but that hasnโ€™t stopped players from wanting more. Most notably, the game is missing certain crucial elements, such as a distinct lack of a battle royale mode.

While battle royale is technically a foreign concept to Battlefield, it still remains very popular outside of the franchise, with stalwarts such as Call of Duty and PUBG having capitalized on its success.

Now, as per leaker ModernWarzone, Battlefield 6 is set to receive a new, battle royale game mode that could tip the scales in its favor even further. Known as Battlefield: RedSec, the mode is expected to be released on October 28, 2025 across all supported platforms (PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S).

Interestingly, there wonโ€™t be any trailers or official announcements for the game mode. RedSec is to be shadow dropped on the 28th with no prior announcement or warning, with not even a single gameplay trailer to go along with it.

More importantly, the battle royale will be entirely free to play in its nature, which means that the game should be even more accessible to players. After all, Battlefield 6 isnโ€™t a particularly cheap game, and the initial launch price might have been enough to scare away potential players.

Hopefully, RedSec generates enough buzz to get more players into the game. The lack of an official announcement is perhaps intentional, as releasing a free to play mode might hurt potential sales along the way.

Itโ€™s quite the curious, bold initiative and how it will pan out remains to be seen.

This Is a Great Direction for Battlefield

Battlefield 6 is a near perfect first person shooter, but one of the many complaints users have had were with regards to its battle royale mode, or lack thereof. Love it or hate it, battle royales are all the rage right now, and incorporating one into your game is an easy way to print money, and draw players.

It was also the only major advantage Call of Duty had over Battlefield 6 (until quite recently), as the former has a free to play battle royale mode. Now, with the release of RedSec, things could change drastically, and Battlefield might finally have the upper hand it so desperately needs.

This could potentially be the final nail in the coffin for Call of Duty Black Ops 7, a game that has managed to stumble on each turn, especially when compared to its competitors.

Battlefield 6 has, interestingly enough, also taken a leaf out of Call of Dutyโ€™s page (across multiple aspects), and will likely release Battlefield: RedSec as a separate game mode. This means that the rest of the game will remain untouched, and RedSec is in essence, a completely different game.
