Where Winds Meet is an open world RPG that draws a heavy emphasis on Chinese history, and wowed players with its subtle storytelling cues and impressive visuals back when it was announced back in Gamescom, 2022.
Fast forward three whole years later, and Where Winds Meet is finally ready for a global release, after having already been released once (early in China) in December, 2024. With that in mind, hereโs what else you need to know about the game.
When Does Where Winds Meet Release?
Where Winds Meet releases today, November 14, 2025 at around 2 PM PST/10 PM/GMT/5 PM EST. This is as far as the Steam version is concerned.
There is a preload, but itโs live only for PCs. Interestingly, the game has a staggered download distribution, which results in 3 different download options (standard, lightweight and heavy).
The PS5 preload is only available if you purchase the preorder bundle for $15, otherwise youโll have to wait until it launches like everyone else.
All Supported Platforms for Where Winds Meet
Where Winds Meet is being released for the PC (Steam, Epic Games and a standalone launcher) and PlayStation 5 as of the time of writing this article. Interestingly, the China-only version of the game has both Android and iOS ports, while the global version doesnโt.
This could point to a future mobile version for global servers as well, if Netease Games is willing.
What Is Where Winds Meet?
Where Winds Meet is an online only open world game, with a heavy emphasis on Wuxia and role playing action adventure combat. You can take it as a more mature take on Genshin Impactโs formula, with realistic visuals.
The visuals are, for lack of a better word, stunning and the production quality is AAA level, despite being an entirely free to play game. The game was built using the in house Messiah Engine, which gives it a lot more scalability when compared to modern Unreal Engine 5 titles.
In other words, Where Winds Meet should look stunning and run perfectly fine on low end hardware, which is quite obvious once you look at its PC system requirements, which arenโt demanding at all.
Where Winds Meet is also built on top of a rather interesting free to play model. Instead of paywalling characters behind summons and/or heavy grinding for virtual currency, the game does away with the thing entirely.

Each character is free to obtain, simply by grinding through the game. Itโs quite similar to Duet Night Abyss, and has a similar system where only cosmetics are locked to the gacha (lootbox system).
As is the case with all cosmetics, these are purely for visual effect, and offer no stat bonuses of the sort. Some cosmetics are expected to be free to obtain, or simply grindable via event tokens or something similar.
However, like most games that utilize this particular system, you can choose to speed up your progression by spending a little real world money. So expect there to be a bit of a grind in the process.
If you can live with that, then Where Winds Meet is a fantastic free to play game that punches well above its weight class, and has a surprisingly good combat system that’s layered in depth that makes it well worth trying.
