Imprinted is an indie, psychological horror thriller that blends together audio recognition with visceral storytelling. This indie game is perhaps one to look forward to, as it offers a pretty unique experience.

Indie games are all the rage right now, and perhaps rightfully so. The indie game scene has exploded in popularity within the past three years, offering a wide breadth of refreshing, genre defying titles that bring the fun back in gaming.

That being said, here is what we know about Imprinted, from its release date, storytelling, gameplay and more about Cobalt Lane, the team behind it.

What Is Imprinted?

Published by a completely independent studio, Imprinted is best described as a psychological thriller. This particular video game is being developed by Cobalt Lane, and debuts some time in 2026, exclusively for PCs (as of the time of writing this article), on Steam.

Players take on the role of protagonist Vincent Brandt, who is described to be a talented but jaded audio engineer. Vincent is called in to restore the lost recordings of a mysterious experimental musician, Viola Fossati.

The tapes date back to the 1970s, and Vincent quickly discovers that there is more to these tapes than it would seem at first. The tapes โ€˜start to push backโ€™, and break reality, in what appears to be a genre defying adventure.

Imprintedโ€™s โ€˜gameplayโ€™ also appears to be very intriguing. Judging by the screenshots, it appears to be some sort of analog horror themed software user interface, and players will be guided on how to restore these tapes, and bridge a relationship between the two artists, separated by decades.

Player choice also seems to be of emphasis here, where they can decide on โ€˜what to bring back to lifeโ€™ in the soundtracks, which are compoisted by Charlotte Oleena and Filippo Beck Peccoz.

When Will Imprinted Release?

Imprinted is projected to be releasing sometime later this year. While the developers are yet to give an actual release date as of the time of writing this article, the game can be wishlisted on Steam, which should hopefully indicate a more or less polished build in place.

In other words, a 2026 release date has been announced, but no word on the exact date yet.

More on Cobalt Lane, the Independent Studio Behind Imprinted

Cobalt Lane is an independent game studio based within Munich, Germany. They specialize in making narrative games, and are quite new to the scene, being founded in 2025.

The studio was founded by game composer Filippo Beck Peccoz, with the crew consisting of long time game dev collaborators.

Cobalt Lane leans heavily into crafting emotionally telling experiences that aim to blur the lines between storytelling and interactivity. Imprinted also happens to be their debut title, and judging by the recent slew of trailers and screenshots (along with their descriptions), might just be another marvelous indie experience to look forward to.
