Fans finally got their first look at EA Motive’s Iron Man game, but it didn’t happen the way the studio planned. On August 28, gameplay footage from a test build leaked online, almost four years after the game was first announced back in 2022. The footage shows Iron Man flying over a city, fighting enemies, switching weapons and moving through what appears to be S.H.I.E.L.D. locations. Motive stepped in after the leak, confirmed that the footage was legit, and managed to turn this surprise into a moment of excitement for anyone waiting on the game.
It’s clear the footage comes from an early, unfinished version. There’s an “Aug26 test” tag right on the screen, and the gameplay will probably change a lot before the game’s official release. Still, fans finally got some answers to big questions, they saw how Tony Stark moves through the world, how combat actually works, and how players might be able to customize his armor. For a lot of people, this was the first real sign the Iron Man project is still alive and moving forward.
Leaked Footage Shows Iron Man Flight and Combat
Motive announced the Iron Man game back in 2022, but they kept most details private. The studio made a name for itself with the Dead Space remake, but they stayed quiet about Iron Man for years. That long silence had some fans worried, especially once Motive started helping out with the Battlefield 6 team earlier in 2024.
Once the footage leaked, everything changed instantly. The video showed Tony Stark taking off and flying around a massive city, reported to be Chicago based on some context. The flight mechanics appear to be central, with Iron Man able to weave between skyscrapers and change direction mid-air effortlessly.
Combat also gets a spotlight. Iron Man swaps between different attack types, fighting bad guys both on the ground and in the sky. There are missiles, lasers, and some classic suit-based weapons. These scenes do a good job showing how movement and combat might link together, instead of flight just being an extra feature.
You even get a quick look at suit customization, hinting that players might have some say over Iron Man’s gear or appearance as they play. But since this came from a test build, there’s no guarantee every feature will make it to launch.
Familiar Marvel Characters and Locations Appear
Marvel fans picked up on a few references in the leaked footage. There are scenes on a S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier, which means the setting goes way beyond just Tony flying around a city.
Some familiar faces and villains pop up too. Iron Monger and Whiplash are connected to what’s shown, while James Rhodes (War Machine) and Pepper Potts might show up in the adventure. But these names aren’t confirmed as the full cast.
Altogether, the footage hints at something bigger than just a couple of missions. The city, the helicarrier, and possible Marvel cameos have fans expecting a much broader Iron Man experience.

This wasn’t the usual reaction. Leaks are usually a developer’s worst nightmare. In Iron Man’s case, though, the footage actually brought up new interest in a game that hadn’t gotten much attention in years.
There’s still no information on a launch date or platforms for Iron Man, and the leaked footage isn’t final, the developers could still change features, characters, and visuals before release.
