During Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest 2026 presentation, Telltale Games fans were treated to not one, but two big announcements surrounding the much anticipated episodic series, The Wolf Among Us.
Arriving a full 13 years after the original 2013 game, the second season is finally coming in 2027, appropriately titled ‘The Wolf Among Us 2.’ But the long wait ends with double the rewards. For those who have yet to play the first five episodes or just want to experience the story again to catch up, Season 1 is getting a full remaster this holiday season. The upgraded version will launch across all major platforms, including both the Nintendo Switch 1 and 2.
The Wolf Among Us: From Cancelled Sequel to Fairytale Murder Mystery
Telltale Games and AdHoc Studio first announced the sequel back in 2017. It was meant to launch much sooner than 2027. However, creative differences and Telltale’s sudden studio shutdown forced the project into cancellation. LCG Entertainment later bought the Telltale brand and re-revealed the title in 2019 to confirm it was back in active development.
The original game holds a strong 80 average score on OpenCritic. Critics called it one of Telltale’s most distinctive and best-written stories. The game is based on the popular Fables comic book series. It features famous characters from classic folklore and Disney movies, like Snow White, Beauty, and the Big Bad Wolf himself. In this dark world, these characters live hidden away in a gritty, crime-filled neighborhood in New York City. The original game stood out because it took these familiar childhood icons and tossed them into a mature, murder mystery.

The upcoming sequel will pick up six months after the events of the first season. Bigby Wolf is trying to adjust to his new life, but a massive new case threatens to destroy Fabletown once again. With the power of modern gaming consoles and Unreal Engine 5, the new game will look even better and run much smoother than before. It promises to deliver the same tense detective gameplay that made fans fall in love with the series over a decade ago.
What to Expect From The Wolf Among Us Remaster And When It Launches
While fans will have to wait quite a while to play the official sequel, The Wolf Among Us Remastered will launch sometime during Holiday 2026. Because Telltale Games has not locked down an exact launch date, the title could arrive at late December or potentially shift into something like February 2027. Fans can expect more details, gameplay footage, and an official release date later this year at Geoff Keighleyโs annual The Game Awards presentation.
This upgraded version is not just a simple port, it’s a complete rework that ensures the classic experience feels right on modern hardware. Telltale is bringing a new life into Fabletown by updating the software engine, completely rebuilding the environmental lighting, and introducing much higher frame rates to eliminate the stuttering issues that plagued the original 2013 consoles. Players will also notice entirely reworked user interfaces, crisper character animations, and comprehensive accessibility features designed to accommodate more players than ever before.

For the dedicated fanbase, the remaster doubles as a celebration of the series’ history. It will feature highly anticipated bonus goodies, including detailed image concept galleries, exclusive behind-the-scenes video interviews with the voice cast, and fully playable deleted scenes that were cut from the initial episodic releases. Both the Remaster and The Wolf Among Us 2 will launch across all platforms like PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.
