Xbox developer Playground Games’ Forza Horizon 6 has leaked early, and some players who have downloaded and played the game are getting in trouble for that.
How The Game Got Leaked Days Before Release?
According a gaming and piracy subreddits, Playground Games accidentally exposed the full, unencrypted build of Forza Horizon 6 while rolling out its 155 GB preload files through a Steam update. Since there wasn’t any encryption in place, dataminers gained unrestricted access to the game files. Within hours, piracy communities had already made the leaked build playable, as the title reportedly lacks anti-tamper solutions like Denuvo.

The leaked version is not a complete experience though. Players on Reddit and Twitter who managed to get their hands on it have reported that many aspects of the online functionality are inaccessible, and the game crashes immediately after the first race ends.
Well this isn’t the first time a big game has leaked ahead of its scheduled release. Even Pragmata reportedly faced a similar issue when Capcom uploaded the preload files without proper encryption, which allowed players to access the game before launch.
How Will This Affect The Game And Its Players
While these leaks might feel good to a portion of the community that they got to play the game for free or before release, it also creates a major problem. Developers can suffer significant losses in sales and revenue as PC release is big chunk of the gaming market for Playground games and Forza, but now that it has been leaked and pirated this will impact the sales on PC market by a lot.
A major downside would be that key surprises such as story moments, endings, maps, and hidden content will be spoiled for fans. On top of that, leaked builds are often unfinished or unstable, which can leave players with a poor first impression and anger from gamers is expected towards Playground Games. Adding to this friction are gamers who have already pre-ordered Forza Horizon 6’s Premium Bundle, in hopes to get early access to the game four days before official release.

Playground Games issued a statement about the leak, saying that despite claims to the contrary, Forza Horizon 6‘s pirated version was “not the result of a pre-load issue.” Playground said it’s taking extreme measures to punish players who took part in accessing it early.

There is speculation that users who accessed Forza Horizon 6 early or attempted to connect to online services could face hardware bans. The developer previously used similar measures in Forza Horizon 5 against players who were found to be cheating in or modding the game. A hardware ban blocks access to the game entirely by identifying system components such as motherboard IDs, SSD serial numbers, TPM data, and other markers.
YouTuber DVS Squad played Forza Horizon 6 and posted footage of the game later reported that they were banned by Playground Games until Dec. 31, 9999.
What Fans Can Expect From The Forza Horizon Series This Time
Set to launch on May 19, Forza Horizon 6 is a multiplayer racing-sim franchise that has long been an Xbox staple. The newest entry is set in Japan, meaning players will race past iconic landmarks like the Shibuya Crossing, Ginkgo Avenue, and Tokyo Tower. It also promises features like Horizon Rush, a new event type where players can show off their skills on obstacle courses, as well as updated car and environment sounds. All in all, Forza Horizon 6 looked as though it was shaping up to be one of Playground Games‘ biggest launches.
