  • Fans speculate a remaster for Legend trilogy.
  • A new remake of original Tomb Raider by end if the year.
  • A fan made tribute game of Tomb Raider gaining attraction in the mean time.

A third Tomb Raider remaster collection has been teased for the franchiseโ€™s 30th anniversary, which is launching later this year.

Could Aspyr Be Remastering The Tomb Raider Legend Trilogy?

Fans have theorised that a third Tomb Raider remaster collection consisting of the Legend trilogy is on the way, and a new post on Reddit indicates that this may be Crystal Dynamicsโ€™ plan before the release of Legacy of Atlantis. Referring to a rumoured delay of Legacy of Atlantis into early 2027, Reddit user Jasonvsfreddyvs theorises that the alleged remaster collection may release in late 2026. โ€œSociety of Raiders, the same source that leaked Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, commented a few months ago that Aspyr would be working on something for the 30th anniversary, and everything points to it being a remaster of LAU,โ€ they write in a post.

โ€œJust this week, the official X account commented that Tomb Raider Legend turned 20 this week. As I mentioned here last year, the fact that the official account tweeted about Tomb Raider Underworld suggested that a remaster of LAU was on the way.โ€ The user then adds: โ€œAnd if we now add the possible delay of Legacy of Atlantis, it would be most likely that a remaster of LAU would be a plan B for this year by Embracer Group and Crystal Dynamics, but we will have to wait for confirmation of the delay of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, since rumours point to a release date of February 12, 2027.โ€

It does seem likely that remasters of the Legend trilogy are in the works, considering how well-received the previous Aspyr remasters were, as well as the fact that Tomb Raider: Legend is one of the more popular games in the series. With Legacy of Atlantis also set to unify all of the seriesโ€™ timelines, it also stands to reason that Crystal Dynamics will want all of Laraโ€™s adventures available on as many modern platforms as possible, including Nintendo Switch.

For now, weโ€™ll just have to wait and see what Crystal Dynamics and Aspyr is cooking up. Official sources have not confirmed a remaster yet, but more attention has been given lately to the games in the Legend trilogy which may hint at future plans for them.Featured Image Credit: Crystal Dynamics

PC Remake Possible This Year

A remake is on the way later this year, and itโ€™s one that we never knew we needed, until now. Without question, the series is one of the most iconic properties in the video game industry, ever since its inception on the original PlayStation in 1996. The series is inspired by the legendary Indiana Jones movies, only with these games, weโ€™re globe-trotting, raiding tombs for artefacts, shooting bad guys in the face and getting chased by dinosaurs as Lara Croft.

Since its inception, the series has evolved a lot. Granted, itโ€™s always been a 3D experience, at least for the mainline games in the series, but when it comes to combat, exploration, and visuals, modern-day Tomb Raider is truly next level. Now, weโ€™re eagerly awaiting two new games in the series, one being a new remake of the original game, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, and a brand new story with Tomb Raider: Catalyst.

Tomb Raider Demake; A Tribute 2D Fan Game

However, before both of those two new Tomb Raider games grace us with their presence, we have this fantastic fan-made demake of the original trilogy. A trailer for the demake was shared by one of its creators, DelcaTheKitten, on Twitter, and rather than being a polygon 3D world, this is a 2D side-scrolling experience, and it looks like a totally natural fit. Honestly, I can see this as an official release. โ€œClassic Tomb Raider, fully reimagined as a side-scroller,โ€ they tweeted. โ€œA project developed by me (Delca) and Trxye, we’re incredibly happy to announce that it’s now complete! Planned release: May 2026

Some commentators on the thread did share concerns that the project might be taken down by its current license holder, Amazon Games Studios, but with this being a profit-free fan project, it should be safe from a cease and desist.

โ€œWhich storefronts will it be released on?โ€ asked HourSilver75, to which DelcaTheKitten replied, โ€œIt will be released for free on @trcustomsorg, a fansite for all Tomb Raider fan games!โ€

As for the two upcoming official releases, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is expected to arrive at the end of this year, and Tomb Raider: Catalyst sometime in 2027. Thatโ€™s assuming thereโ€™s no delay, of course.
