  • Steam Deck OLED models are back in stock.
  • New Price changes for the Steam Deck OLED.
  • Alternative for fans and players instead of the new one.

The Steam Deck will now set back customers a few hundred more dollars, as Valve revealed updated prices on the OLED models of its popular gaming handheld. Though the Steam Deck OLED is back in stock as of this writing, the new prices will affect users in the US and other territories.

The Steam Deck Has Just Become More Expensive Across The Globe

Since its launch in 2022, the Steam Deck quickly became a notable way for users to play games from their Steam library on the go. Although the Steam Deck has since faced stiff competition in the handheld market, Valve’s portable gaming tablet remains a popular gadget for PC enthusiasts and casual gamers alike. The Steam Deck initially launched with LCD and OLED versions for users to pick from. However, Valve discontinued the Steam Deck LCD model in late 2025, making the OLED model the only new units available from that point.

Even though the Steam Deck has faced supply issues throughout 2026, Valve has since replenished the stock of the Steam Deck OLED in the US. However, the Steam Deck OLED is now more expensive than before. As of this writing, the Steam Deck OLED 512 GB model has jumped from $549 to $789, a $240 increase before any taxes and fees are applied.

The 1TB Steam Deck OLED received a bigger price increase, as it went from $649 to $949. The $300 price hike now makes the Steam Deck OLED 1TB model just $50 cheaper than the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X handheld. However, the 1TB Steam Deck OLED is now $50 more expensive than the PS5 Pro, which is priced at $899. Along with the US price increase, the Steam Deck OLED also saw price hikes in Canada, the UK, Europe, Australia, and Poland.

The Steam Deck’s new pricing scheme is the latest change amid troubling times throughout the global video game industry. Since 2025, gaming consoles have become more expensive due to the state of the global economy and the ongoing DRAM shortage crisis. In short, the demand for essential components from AI-based data centers has caused the prices of RAM, solid-state drives, and processors to spike by hundreds of dollars since late 2025.

What Players And Fans Can Do As An Alternative

Users can save some money on a Steam Deck OLED model by purchasing a certified refurbished unit from Valve while supplies last. A refurbished 512GB Steam Deck OLED will set users back $629, while a refurbished 1TB model will cost $759. While the Steam Deck is still cheaper than the ROG Xbox Ally X, the new price of the 1TB model makes it twice as pricey as the Nintendo Switch 2, its main competitor on the market. However, Nintendo will increase the price of the Switch 2 from $449 to $499 starting September 1.

The Steam Deck’s price hike also raises questions over how much the upcoming Steam Machine will cost. Although Valve has kept a tight lid about its upcoming system, the Steam Machine is still on track to ship sometime in 2026. It remains to be seen how much the price of the Steam Deck will affect the Steam Machine.
