  • The next entry could be a spin off.

Sony dropped the announcement that an official remake for the God of War trilogy was in the works, back during the State of Play set earlier this month. These remakes were requested by fans for quite some time now, and it is nice to see PlayStation take notice.

While weโ€™ve barely had any information related to these remakes, Christopher Judge (the current voice actor for Kratos, in the Norse saga) might have accidentally revealed more than he was supposed to.

The New God Of War Remakes Will Have Revamped Combat

Christopher Judge, the current voice actor for Kratos in the Norse saga for the God of War games might have accidentally revealed more than he was supposed to say. Speaking out, he has explicitly mentioned that the God of War trilogy remake will most certainly have TC Carson returning as Kratos, which is something weโ€™ve known since the State of Play announcement.

In other news, he did also mention that the remakes will feature a brand new, revamped combat system to bring them more in line with modern audiences. The extent of this re-imagining remains unknown as of the time of writing this article, but expect it to be significant.

What To Expect From The Remakes

What we know so far is that the entire GoW trilogy (1,2 and 3) have been confirmed to be getting remakes. This covers games back from the PlayStation 2 and all the way to the PlayStation 3.

Of course, we should expect visual changes and upgrades, bringing the game back to the modern age, opening it up for a brand new audience.

There will be significant challenges to remake the game from scratch, given how old it is. That being said, the revamped combat system does cause a sense of worry, since there is a high chance of screwing it up.

As long as the game stays true to the spirit of the original, and does not introduce any unnecessary changes or tweaks, it should be mostly fine.

When Is The Next Mainline God Of War Game Releasing?

Itโ€™s anyoneโ€™s guess We do know that PlayStation is most certainly working on a new, mainline God Of War game at this point, and it is set to be a sequel to the critically acclaimed Ragnarok.

Rumors and leaks have hinted at a departure from both Norse and Greek mythologies toward Egyptian ones, which is certainly new horizons for the franchise. It would appear that Santa Monica Studios has taken the ending of Ragnarok to heart, and is going for a multiversal mythos approach.

That being said, thereโ€™s still so much we do not know yet. Now, even though it has been an arduous five years since the release of Ragnarok, leaks seems to suggest that the next GoW will not be a mainline entry, rather something quite different.

This likely means that Santa Monica is working on multiple GoW projects at the same time, as seen in its recent surprise drop for the Sons of Sparta, which was a 2D side scrolling adventure, something quite unlike what weโ€™ve come to expect from the franchise.
