Genshin Impact 6.1 Leaks Hint at a Disappointing Freebie

Genshin Impact 6.1 Genshin Impact 6.1

Key Highlights:

  • Genshin Impact 6.1 leaks hint at a free 4-star character.
  • The character is over 3 years old at this point in the meta.
  • A better reward could have been more beneficial, especially for veterans.

Genshin Impact routinely holds closed beta tests for upcoming version builds, and some information regarding the upcoming version 6.1 has surfaced online. Players will be able to log in and claim a particular character for entirely free.

While the freebie is appreciated, it’s still kind of middling in its reward. Players could have most certainly been handed over something a bit more substantial, or even had a series of reworks to the game instead.

Genshin Impact 6.1 Leaks Point to a Free 4-Star Character

Version 6.1 of Genshin Impact is still quite far off, given that the game is still in version 5.8, โ€˜Sunspray Summer Resortโ€™, as of the time of writing this article. However, information pertaining to version 6.1 has already been datamined by HomDGCat.

One of the more interesting reveals appears to be in the form of a free 4-star character being handed out to players when they log into the game. The character is none other than Collei, a 4-star Dendro unit.

Collei is a Dendro support character, and uses a Bow to fight enemies. She was first introduced over 3 years ago on August 24, 2022 and also happens to be one of the first Dendro characters in the game.

Players will be able to obtain their free copy of Collei by completing a series of activities for version 6.1โ€™s main event. This is par for the course with HoYoverse, who routinely hands out characters with alternate updates.

These challenges are rather simple, but take some time to complete. Keep at it, and you should have a free copy of Collei in no time. Assuming you already have her unlocked, you will receive a Consetllation point instead.

If your Collei is already at C6 (maxed Constellations), you will receive a set amount of Masterless Starglitter instead, which can be exchanged against pulls.

Collei Isnโ€™t Particularly Amazing in the Current Meta

Collei was first released with version 3.0 of Genshin Impact, the same version that brought with it the region of Sumeru. The character has passed over 3 years of meta changes at this point, and has not received any major buffs to date.

Colei also happens to be a 4-star character. While 4-star characters arenโ€™t inherently terrible (with some notable examples such as Bennet), they are considered to be quite worse when compared to 5-star units.

Even then, this would not have been as big of an issue if the 4-star character offered had been a bit more recent. Collei is quite an old unit, and was weak to begin with when she first made her debut.

She was noticed as being one of the first, easy to obtain Dendro characters, and works mostly as a Support unit. She has since been replaced by newer units, and even 4-star options appear to be better picks here.

You can still find some use out of Collei though, more so if you are a new player (which these campaigns target).  Having access to a Dendro unit is better than not having any at all, and she is still used to this day for certain niche team combinations (such as with Clorinde in an Aggravate focused Dendro reaction build).

While the free 4-star character might be quite disappointing to veterans, it’s a fine reward for newcomers. HoYoverse usually reserves the more significant rewards during either anniversaries or community milestones, so it might be worth waiting.
