Key Highlights:
- 007 First Light recently released its PC system requirements, which appear to be quite strange.
- The game recommends using an RTX 3060 Ti with 12 gigabytes of VRAM; such a card does not exist.
- Combined with the fact that this extends to only 1080p60 gameplay, it does seem like the game will have optimization issues.
The PC system requirements for 007 First Light have just been released, and this upcoming title from IO Interactive (best known for their Hitman series) has raised a lot of eyebrows with the spec sheet.
The PC system requirements look to be scaled impossibly high, making it far out of reach for the average gamer, in a world where DRAM and SSD pricing has shot through the roof.

The System Requirements Seem To Be Mostly Reasonable, Until You Look At the Fine Print
While the PC system requirements for 007 First Light might appear to be somewhat โreasonableโ at first glance, things change when you look at the fine print. The minimum requirements list a rather paltry resolution of 1080p, with an even worse frame rate target of 30 FPS.
Not to be outdone, even the recommended PC system requirements seem way overkill, with the recommended preset of 1080p at 60 FPS.
While both the RTX 3060 Ti and RX 6700 XT arenโt new cards by any definition of the term, these are still pretty capable GPUs that seem to only lack the grunt for ray tracing, which could be telling.

It is suspected that (like most modern games) 007 First Light is mandating the use of always on ray tracing, a technique that results in a heavy loss in frame rates for a mixed bag of results. It could theoretically explain why even the mighty 3060Ti is being relegated to 1080p60 gameplay (assuming that this does not take upscaling into account).
Its quite an unfortunate turn of events, and coupled with the 32 GB RAM recommendation has many folks wondering whether the game is going to be unoptimized at launch, as is the case with modern releases.
Some Parts of the PC System Requirements SeemโฆOdd
An interesting takeaway from the listed PC system requirements seems to be in its VRAM recommendations. The game recommends 12 GB of VRAM, which the RTX 3060 Ti completely lacks (it is only available in an 8 GB VRAM variant).
Admittedly, while the RX 6700 XT does have 12 GB of VRAM (which could be the point of confusion here), it does pose the question as to how this kind of error even made it out in the first place.
There is no i5-9500K in existence either, as Intel has so far only released a non K version of the i5 CPU (which means it cannot be overclocked). The AMD side of things seem to be mostly alright though.
Combined with the rather aggressive recommended PC system requirements, (and the fact that these are locked to 1080p presets) it does raise some serious doubts about in-game performance and optimization.
