CD Projekt Red has announced that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered will launch on September 29, 2026, bringing updated visuals, gameplay changes and other technical improvements to the 2015 role-playing game. The remaster will be available as a free upgrade for existing owners on qualifying platforms, with a native version also coming to Nintendo Switch 2.
The announcement was accompanied by a first trailer at Gamescom Opening Night Live, showing changes to combat, movement, visuals and other parts of Geralt’s adventure. CD Projekt Red also made the two existing expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, free to all current owners immediately, ahead of the remaster. Separately, the studio revealed Songs of the Past, a paid expansion planned for 2027 that will introduce a new region and story.
The Remaster Updates Combat, Visuals And Movement
The remastered version is more than a visual update. According to CD Projekt Red’s announcement, the September release will include upgraded visuals and performance alongside changes to gameplay. These include enhanced combat, improved traversal and movement, new Witcher sign effects, revised mount handling and updated monster behavior. The game’s progression systems are also being revised, with a revamped skill tree. It also adds transmogrification, expanded photo mode options and new finishers. The studio has not described the remaster as a separate new game but instead is being provided as an upgrade to existing owners on qualifying platforms.
The free upgrade covers PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. The Switch 2 version is a separate native release with preorders open, not a free upgrade, though existing Switch owners can reportedly claim it. PC players will be able to access it through GOG, Steam and the Epic Games Store, while the game is also coming to Battle.net through a new partnership between CD Projekt Red and Blizzard.

The first trailer has also drawn attention on social media. DiscussingFilm shared the trailer on X, where its post had recorded around 2.4 million views at the time of reporting. Fans took to Reddit to discuss on the free upgrade and the opportunity to revisit the game with the new changes. Collectively, those reactions hint that fans are still very interested to play the title, however that still does not establish how widely the remaster will be adopted.
Songs of the Past Sends Geralt to Letten in 2027
The September remaster is also setting up another release for the game. CD Projekt Red has announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past, a paid expansion scheduled for 2027. The expansion will take Geralt to Letten, a new region described by CD Projekt Red as a rural land with a darker secret beneath its peaceful surface. The studio says the expansion will introduce new quests, characters and enemies, while Geralt will also receive new abilities and a chain weapon. The project is being developed by CD Projekt Red and Fool’s Theory. Unlike the September remaster, Songs of the Past will be sold separately. CD Projekt Red has confirmed a 2027 release window but has not announced a specific launch date or price. It is planned for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2.
The expansion will also be available through Battle.net as part of the CD Projekt Red and Blizzard partnership. Players who buy the expansion on Battle.net will unlock a Geralt-inspired Diablo IV skin, with more detail promised when CD Projekt Red attends BlizzCon in September. The Witcher 3 has sold more than 65 million copies since 2015, and the studio has positioned Songs of the Past as a bridge to The Witcher 4, its 2028 sequel starring Ciri.
