PSN Down Worldwide on July 24: How to Check PlayStation Network Status

PlayStation Network went offline on July 24, leaving players across multiple regions unable to sign in, play online, or reach the PlayStation Store. Sony’s status page now lists services as offline across PS5, PS4, PS3, and PS Vita, along with the PlayStation Store and the PlayStation App.

Reports began building around midday UTC. Sony’s own status page showed everything operating normally for the first couple of hours, which left players troubleshooting their own connections while the fault sat upstream. The page was updated to reflect the outage shortly after 3pm BST, by which point Downdetector had logged thousands of reports from the United States, the United Kingdom, and parts of Europe.

How to Check PlayStation Network Status

Sony’s official status page at status.playstation.com is the first place to look. It breaks the network into separate components covering Account Management, Gaming and Social, PlayStation Video, the PlayStation Store, and PlayStation Direct, and lets you select your region from a dropdown. Each component shows as operational or experiencing issues.

Today has exposed the limit of relying on that page alone. It reported all services healthy for roughly two hours after players started losing access, so cross-checking against Downdetector gives a faster read on whether a problem is widespread or local to you. The PlayStation Support and Ask PlayStation accounts on X are the other place Sony posts during incidents, though neither has carried an explanation yet.

If you want to rule out your own setup before assuming the worst, a wired connection test or a router restart takes a minute. During an outage on this scale, neither will help, but it separates a genuine network fault from a coincidental home issue.

Which PlayStation Services Are Affected

The disruption reaches nearly every online function rather than one feature. Sign-in and account management are failing, online multiplayer is dropping matches and refusing connections, and the PlayStation Store is unavailable for browsing, purchases, and downloads. PlayStation Plus cloud saves and game catalogue access have been intermittent. Party Chat, friends lists, messages, and player presence are not loading for many users, and trophy syncing went down before partially returning.

The practical sting for most players is licence validation. Digital titles that check entitlement on launch will not start while the network is unreachable, including some single-player games. Titles that run fully offline remain playable.

One launch took the timing badly. The MARVEL Tลkon: Fighting Souls open beta was scheduled to begin today, and the game’s X account acknowledged that players were hitting login and network issues while the team investigated. Anyone hoping to sample the roster before the game releases has lost part of that window.

What Sony Has Said About the PSN Outage

Sony has not published a cause or an estimated restoration time. Amazon Web Services reported connectivity problems affecting its US-WEST-2 region between 3:55am and 4:15am Pacific, which it said impacted multiple AWS services in that region. Reports of simultaneous issues at other online platforms point in the same direction, though Sony has not confirmed any link to its own outage.

Claims of a deliberate attack are circulating on social media. None have been substantiated, and no evidence has been presented publicly, so they are worth treating as unverified until Sony or a credible security source says otherwise.

Services had begun returning intermittently for some players by mid-afternoon, with the PlayStation Store and trophies coming back before others. Full restoration has not been confirmed. Anyone caught mid-purchase should check their transaction history once the Store stabilises rather than repeating the payment.
