Key Highlights:

  • Resident Evil Revelations 3 had been reportedly canned a while ago.
  • DLC for Resident Evil 6 as well as a spinoff DayZ like clone were also cut off.
  • The only notable release to look forward to is Requiem.

Capcom has been on a roll lately and are arguably back in their prime, with back to back blockbuster releases such as Monster Hunter Wilds and Resident Evil 9: Requiem.

The Resident Evil series in particular has been highly successful, and in recent years the recipient of multiple remakes. While weโ€™ve seen remakes for iconic entries such as Resident Evil 2 and 4, there were rumors of a Revelations remake and/or re-release.

Unfortunately, this seems to have been canned.

Resident Evil Revelations 3 Has Been Reportedly Cancelled

As per well regarded leaker Dusk Golem on X, multiple Resident Evil projects were in development between 2012 to 2014, one of which happened to be Resident Evil Revelations 3.

Revelations 3 was supposed to feature Rebecca as its main character, where the character had to investigate a university affected by the zombie plague. Players would have to defend themselves from these โ€˜zombiesโ€™, which used melee weapons such as scissors and box cutters to attack the player.

The demo was also mentioned to have a lot of similarities to the first Resident Evil game, and to an extent even those that were showcased in the upcoming entry, Requiem, as seen in a playtest demo.

The news of the cancellation is rather devastating, as many were hoping for another Revelations game in the series, which is considered to be quite underrated.

Everything Else You Need To Know

Revelations 3 wasnโ€™t the only game to be canned during this period. The same thread goes on to mention yet another multiplayer spin off project that got spun off into the failed Umbrella Corps.

A lot of effort went into this particular MP spinoff, including the addition of a forest section, newer mutated zombies and more. This was ultimately canned due to the huge critical failure that was Resident Evil 6, which also managed to miss its sales target.

Thatโ€™s not all though, and we had both a western focused RE game known as Biohazard Z (chasing the DayZ trend) along with a Resident Evil 6 DLC that was canned (which featured Claire Redfield and Moira Burton).

Whatโ€™s In The Future For Resident Evil?

So far, weโ€™ve only have Resident Evil Requiem to look forward to, which releases later this month on February 27 for the PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and curiously enough, the Nintendo Switch 2.

Requiem is a brand new entry taking place years after the original Raccoon City incident, starring series veteran Leon S. Kennedy and newcomer Grace Ashcroft. The game can freely switch between first and third person camera angles and offers two very different kind of experiences.
The first is more action focused, with Leon as its protagonist while the second tonal shift is in the form of Graceโ€™s missions, which lean heavily into survival horror (like the rather excellent Resident Evil 7, Biohazard).

Other than Requiem, thereโ€™s not much else that has been revealed thus far, save for a few native Nintendo Switch 2 ports for Resident Evil 7 (Biohazard) and 8 (Village), which will be released at a later date.
