Fortnite‘s in game currency V-Bucks, allows players to buy cosmetic items in the Daily shop, make purchases on player made Islands, or acquire the Battle Pass, LEGO Pass, Music Pass, or OG Pass. So even though it’s a free to play game, players can use this currency to customize their gaming experience to their liking.
Fortnite’s Shrinkflation
Fortnite has an extensive player base and many of its fans have spent money on V-buck packs at some point in the game. The price of V-Bucks has changed a couple of times over the years, which has been somewhat controversial among the community. Recently Epic Games announced that it would not be changing the prices of V-buck packs, but they would grant considerably less in game currency.
This phenomenon is known as shrinkflation and it is a tactic used to attempt in order to raise the prices of a product without causing too much commotion in the community. It doesn’t sound as bad as a price increase where rather than increasing the price you decrease the quantity or the amount that you’ve been providing till now.
Fortnite Crew Subscribers Will Receive 200 V-Bucks Less a Month Starting June 2026
It isn’t only V-Buck packs that are being affected by Shrinkflation in Fortnite. Starting June 2026 Fortnite Crew Subscribers will receive 800 V-Bucks on a monthly basis rather than the one 1000 V bucks they used to get. Epic Games told players about these changes in an email, letting them know that they won’t come into effect immediately. Perhaps this was so they could have some time to think about whether or they were going to renew this subscription at the end of the month.
Players may think that this means that they will technically receive the same value in V-Bucks as before since Chapter 7 Season 2 Battle Pass has gone down in price and the former 1000 V-Bucks Pack grants 800 V-Bucks. But the prices of cosmetics in the item shop have not gone down. Because of these changes subscribers won’t have as much purchase power in Fortnite and the Crew Pack would benefit them as much as it did before.

Prices Changes to V-Bucks
Fans have debated whether the Fortnite group act is worth it or not. To become a member of the crew pack, either players must pay $11.99, or be an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Subscriber. Every month they receive a cosmetic set, while the subscription is active they will have access to all packs in Fortnite and whenever the membership is renewed and a payment is made they receive 1000 V-Bucks. Fans that play Fortnite regularly and tend to purchase cosmetic and unlock all pass items, It might still be worth even if they’ll get 200 V-Bucks less.

With the price Changes made to V-Bucks, it now cost $4 to purchase 200 V-Bucks and at first glance 200 V-Bucks might not seem like a lot but it adds up. Players that renew their subscription every month of the year will lose 2400 V-Bucks in total, which is more money than they might expect considering that the 2400 V-Bucks pack costs $22.99. These changes lower the value of the crew back by that much on a yearly basis. Ultimately this change might cause some players to cancel their Crew Pack subscription in Fortnite.
