- Why the game got de-listed.
- Alternatives how players can now play it.
At this point it’s no secret that Doki Doki Literature Club is a disturbing experience that touches on self harm, emotional abuse, and uses graphic imagery to do so. But there’s a big warning on the store page for the game – “This game is not suitable for children for those who are easily disturbed.”
But why did the game get delisted only after being added 4 months ago? Here’s the actual reason.
How A Cute Game Like This Can Be So Disturbing

Doki Doki Literature Club or DDLC is a psychological horror visual novel developed by Team Salvatore in 2017. While it appears to be a light hearted dating sim on the surface, the game explores dark themes breaking the 4th wall to interact with the players. At first it seems like a game with cute anime girl characters based on the visual and the gameplay, however there’s more than meets the eye. Audience are suitably warned that this is a horror game, despite marketing material and the game’s first hour disguising the experience as a romantic comedy visual novel game.

The psychological horror game has shocked players and streamers all over the world for its unexpected twists, graphic content, and mature themes in what initially appears to be light hearted romance visual novel. It seems those themes are the reason for its removal. On April 8th some fans noticed that Literature Club had seemingly disappeared from the Google Play Store out of the blue. A day later game creator Dan Salvato and publisher Serenity Forge made an official statement, revealing that Google had removed the game from the store claiming that the content of the game violated their terms of service agreement for its “depiction of sensitive themes”.

The team has defended the game, by saying that its team have been meaningful to players and have helped those struggling with their mental health to feel seen and understood. Numerous players have shared comments on the matter, expressing that they’re disappointed that it was pulled from the Google Play Store. Several have noted that they had already picked up the game and installed it and are grateful that the game is still on the device and playable. Many have also noted that this sudden decision from Google is a bit odd, since Doki Doki Literature Club had a reputation for its dark theme for a considerable time now.

For whatever reason it seems the game’s content was not seen as an issue four months after it was added to the platform.
Where You May Still Be Able To Play Doki Doki Literature Club
Doki Doki Literature Club is still available on all other major platforms including iOS for the time being. The team is already looking into ways to get came onto Android devices without involving the Google Play Store. From the sound of it, Android gamers don’t need to worry about only being given access to a censored or altered version of the game. But there may be some time to wait before it becomes widely available on Android devices again.

Though the gamers have a number choices when it comes to where they want to play Dokidoki Literature Club. The game is currently available on Playstation, Xbox consoles, Nintendo Switch, PC and iOS. Although a newer version of the game with additional content launched back in 2021 as Dokidoki Literature Club Plus!, the original version of the title is still available on Steam for completely free as well. Hopefully those who don’t have any other devices to access the game on will be able to get it on their Android phones and tablets soon.
