Key Highlights:

  • Ubisoftโ€™s Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still under active development.
  • Ubisoft is still hiring for positions related to the game, which also has a multiplayer mode.
  • It might be years before we get anything substantial, though.

Itโ€™s been a hot minute since weโ€™ve had any news for what is one of the most anticipated sequels of all time, Beyond Good & Evil 2. For the uninitiated, the game was announced years ago during E3 2017, in a rather bombastic trailer.

However, the game has fallen to radio silence since then, accelerated by the companyโ€™s downfall and troubled times, which saw the studio (Ubisoft) pushed to the brink of uncertainty.

However, all hope might not be lost, as a recent rumor seemingly suggests that the game is currently in โ€˜active developmentโ€™, and could see the light of day sometime in the near future.

As per Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, Ubisoftโ€™s Beyond Good & Evil 2 is currently under active development, and the game is far from being canned at this point.

According to the report, the game is reportedly โ€˜shaping up very wellโ€™, which is rather pleasantly surprising news, given how long fans have been waiting for it.

Itโ€™s also been confirmed by a series of job listings posted by Ubisoft (as of November 26, 2025 they are still ongoing), which confirm the presence of a multiplayer game mode as well.

That being said, not everything holds up to internal revisions, so expect there to be a multitude of changes in the final release.

Being in development for over 18 years, (making it of legal drinking age, depending on where you live) Beyond Good & Evil 2 is perhaps one of the most delayed video game titles of all time.

Itโ€™s parent production company, Ubisoft has most certainly seen better times, and seem to be locked in a free fall of sorts lately. This was accelerated by slow sales, poor public reception to their recent titles and a series of bizarre decisions that ultimately led them to delay multiple games, including this one.

While it is endearing to see Ubisoft still commit to the series, it is going to be a while until we see the game actually release. It might be years away at this point.

Whatโ€™s the Hype for Beyond Good & Evil 2?

The first Beyond Good & Evil game was released way back in 2003 by Ubisoft for the original Xbox, PlayStation 2, Windows PCs and Gamecube systems. While the game did earn a fair bit of criticism for its lackluster combat design and numerous technical issues, it quickly grew to become a fan favorite over time, and is now widely considered as a cult classic.

The gameplay was also innovative for the time, and had players step into the shoes of protagonist Jade as they work with allies to counter an alien threat. Itโ€™s a rather marvelous premise that captivated fans.

While much of it has to do with nostalgia, Beyond Good & Evil was a very unique game that holds well even today.

Which makes the hype for Beyond Good & Evil 2 all the more massive in its scale. Itโ€™s 2017 trailers showed off impressive (albeit pre-rendered) visuals and a massive gameplay scope that seemed almost astronomical.

This, combined with the fact that the game has seen over 18 years of development without anything to show for it, does have fans worried whether it will be even able to live up to the legacy of the original.
