Key Highlights:
- The Nintendo Switch 2 might be receiving a second variant, codenamed OSM.
- The code was added back in September 2025 to the Nintendo Accounts Portal.
- This may or may not be an indicator for a potential Switch 2 Lite.
The Nintendo Switch 2 has been a remarkably successful console, amassing over 10.36 million units sold worldwide. However, the first gen Switch 2 isnโt without its fair share of issues, which could potentially be addressed in a future hardware revision.
Interestingly enough, a new Nintendo hardware model appears to have surfaced online, which could be exactly what we need right now.
Unreleased Nintendo Hardware โOSMโ Discovered Within Account Portal
As per multiple users on Bluesky (Aaron Dewes and sky), Nintendoโs Account Portal recently received updates for a yet unused model code under the name of โOSMโ. This model was definitely not present when the Switch 2 was first unveiled, and was likely added between 9 to 16 September, 2025 making it not a new addition.
What OSM stands for is anyoneโs guess at this point, and weโre not even sure that this information even pertains to a potential Nintendo Switch 2 spinoff/variant. It should also be noted here that the reference image in the photo is for a regular Switch 2, which makes the whole debacle all the more confusing.
Nintendo is notorious for using absolutely random product names, so this shouldnโt come as a surprise (the Switch 2 was codenamed BEE, for example).
Is This The Fabled Nintendo Switch 2 Lite?
While there have been some rumors and speculation as to whether this reveal marks the imminent arrival of the Switch 2 Lite, it might not be the case. After all, this particular โleakโ is pretty old news at this point (having being added in September, 2025).
Assuming Nintendo really had something to showcase, they would have already done it by now. The Switch 2 Lite so far, is a myth without any basis for existence. The presence of the OSM model is not a direct confirmation for the Lite variant.

That being said, Nintendo is most certainly working on some kind of hardware revision for the Switch 2.
Weโve seen this happen with the first version of the Switch, wherein Nintendo introduced a total of 3 revisions – the low cost Lite, the drop in replacement that was the V2 model, and an upgraded OLED model (with an OLED display, as the name implies).
What exactly this OSM model refers to, we have no idea about knowing at present. Nintendo is famously tight lipped about these kind of reveals, so donโt go expecting news anytime soon.
Speculating What a Nintendo Switch 2 Lite Could Be Like
Assuming Nintendo follows the same formula as the original Nintendo Switch Lite, the Switch 2 lite is expected to be more of the same here. In short, a unibody plastic housing with integrated, non removable Joycons is almost certain, as is a reduced price.
Other specifications, including the display are expected to remain identical.
While it seems unlikely, it is certainly hoped that Nintendo allows the rumored Switch 2 lite to dock to an external display, which was a feature that was sorely missed on the Switch 1 Lite.
However, with the current RAM and storage module situation plaguing the world, expect this rumored reveal to not happen anytime soon. Nintendo is already rumored to be facing difficulties with regard to procuring RAM modules for the Switch 2, and as such pushing a second variant might prove to be a very expensive endeavor.
