The PS5 emulator has now reached a milestone. An experimental, open-source emulator called SharpEmu has successfully booted the Demonโ€™s Souls Remake, blasting past the intro cutscenes and loading straight into the main menu.

Only a few weeks ago, getting a simple 2D indie game to run was considered a huge, painstaking achievement for ninth-generation hardware. Now, this project has shocked the gaming community by launching one of the console’s most visually demanding 3D exclusives.

While the gameโ€™s core UI and internal logic are processing, players shouldn’t expect a smooth experience just yet; the screen is currently plagued by severe visual glitches and broken textures. The development team emphasizes that actual, smooth gameplay is still years away. Right now, they are focusing strictly on system stability rather than frame rates or performance.

How SharpEmu Reached the Demon’s Souls Remake Menu

SharpEmuโ€™s rapid progress is completely rewriting the usual timeline for console emulation. Just a short while ago, it made minor waves simply by booting lightweight 2D platformers. That early success proved the software could handle basic PlayStation 5 files and manage core tasks on modern PCs. However, jumping straight from a simple indie game to a massive AAA blockbuster like Demonโ€™s Souls Remake is a leap no one saw coming this quickly.

According to updates on X, the latest build powers right through the splash screens, plays the entire intro cinematic, and loads up a working main menu. You can even watch the gameโ€™s internal logic running in real-time, showing just how solid the emulatorโ€™s foundation really is.

Despite this progress, the development team is urging everyone to keep their expectations in check. The projectโ€™s current roadmap is laser-focused on system compatibility and core stability, not high frame rates or smooth gameplay. While the game’s internal logic is operating, the 3D graphics pipeline is still completely unfinished. This lack of optimization leaves players looking at dense black screens, flickering geometry, and broken textures. Right now, SharpEmu is acting as a translation layer that takes advantage of the shared x86 architecture between the PlayStation 5 and PCs.

This means the team has to perfect the structural compatibility before they can even think about performance. Ultimately, the developers want games fully playable from start to finish before they even worry about the graphics.

Which Other PS5 Games SharpEmu Is Testing

Demon’s Souls isn’t the only game being tested on experimental software. Developers are constantly testing a handful of other PlayStation 5 titles to hunt down missing core functions. Games like Dreaming Sarah are currently the best benchmarks, successfully rendering full 2D textures. Meanwhile, other indie games and early 3D builds help the team trace memory leaks and map out the console’s complex, proprietary audio and compute shaders.

This sudden explosion in progress has sparked huge waves of discussion across social media. On a thread in the Reddit community, fans are amazed at how fast the progress is moving compared to previous console eras. At the moment according to the developers, players should ignore frame rate conversations for now since the focus is entirely on basic stability. While the UI works, visual and streaming glitches are still the norm.

Many gamers are also linking this sudden boom in open-source development to growing concerns over digital ownership, especially as the industry shifts away from physical discs and Grand Theft Auto 6 coming soon in November only on consoles. While casual players know that smooth, playable AAA games are still far from reality, the foundation laid by SharpEmu proves that ninth-generation emulation could be very real very soon.
