Key Highlights:

  • It has been exactly a year since Avowed was released for PCs and Xbox consoles.
  • The game has released an Anniversary 2.0 update, which includes new playable races and more.
  • A major highlight was the addition of a PlayStation 5 port.

Itโ€™s been exactly one year since Avowed was released for PCs and Xbox consoles back on February 18, 2025. Looking to continue on that celebration, developers Obsidian Entertainment have revealed an anniversary celebration, along with the much rumored PS5 release.

With all that in mind, here is what we know about the same, including details on the PS5 release and of the anniversary contents.

Avowed Finally Gets a PS5 Release

As part of its anniversary patch update, Obsidian Entertainment recently unveiled Patch 2.0, a major update for Avowed. This was followed by an immediate launch of the game for the PlayStation 5, which is now part of Microsoft and Xboxโ€™s multi platform strategy.

Indeed, the gaming giant has been pivoting elsewhere lately, looking to entirely tear down the shackles of exclusivity and make gaming accessible to all folks. That being said, this was entirely expected.

Xbox has seen great success in launching what used to be first party franchises on rival platforms, with the likes of Forza Horizon 5 and the Fallout series having seen quite a few sales on the PS5, a trend which is expected to continue.

Whatโ€™s Included In The Anniversary Update For Avowed?

Avowedโ€™s anniversary update brings with it a ton of new features and quality of life improvements, many of which were highly requested by players since launch.

To kick off, we have New Game Plus, a sort of endgame like mode that lets players progress through Avowedโ€™s campaign once more, but while keeping all collectibles and upgrades from the previous run intact. Of course, expect there to be some form of increased difficulty.

Other important additions include custom difficulty sliders, which should let players fine tune their gameโ€™s difficulty based across multiple parameters. This should allow (in theory) a much more restrained, difficult campaign that should please hardcore players.

A photo mode was long overdue, and has been finally added to the game. This should let players take perfectly posed screenshots. Other bug fixes and QoL changes have also been introduced.

In terms of new content, we also have three new species to choose a starting race from. These include the Dwarves, Orlans and Aumaua. This is a much welcome change, given that the race selection in Avowed was pretty barebones to begin with.

The New Game Plus mode also includes new, unique weapons, gear and armor to collect.

We also have our usual slew of visual upgrades (even if Avowed wasnโ€™t a particularly bad looking game to begin with), promising better texturework and lighting.

What Is Avowed?

Avowed is an action RPG from Obsidian Entertainment being released for PCs and Xbox Series X/S consoles on February 18, 2025 followed by a PlayStation 5 release just a year later.

The game was also available via Xboxโ€™s Game Pass subscription service day one, provided you were subscribed to the correct tier.

Set in the same universe as Pillars of Eternity, this RPG promised a fantastical tale with extensive customization, along with the ability to dual wield weapons, based on both magic and firearms.

The game can be best compared to The Outer Worlds, and is instead set in a fantasy setting. Although the game was positively received, it failed to meet Xboxโ€™s sales demands and is likely to be deemed as a commercial failure.
