Ninja Gaiden 4 Releases to Very Positive Reviews on Steam, but Not Everything Is Perfect

Key Highlights:

  • Ninja Gaiden 4 has been released to very positive reviews on Steam.
  • However, there are a few things that hold it back from being an exceptional title.
  • All things considered though, Ninja Gaiden 4 is a blast.

Ninja Gaiden 4 is the latest entry in the long running Ninja Gaiden series from Team Ninja, being co-developed with Platinum Games. Published by Xbox Game Studios, the game has seen a phenomenal launch, earning a Very Positive score on Steam mere hours into its launch.

Itโ€™s not without its fair share of issues and critiques though, and Ninja Gaiden 4 feels like a familiar yet detached Ninja Gaiden game that stumbles a few steps along the way, all while providing a (mostly) cohesive experience.

Ninja Gaiden 4 Releases to 82% Positive Ratings on Steam

Team Ninja x Platinum Gamesโ€™ latest work, Ninja Gaiden 4 has managed to earn itself some rather serious praise from critics, with most of its compliments directed toward its stellar combat system, and deliciously gory hack and slash combat.

Itโ€™s not just reviewers though, and Ninja Gaiden 4 has amassed a sizable following across all platforms – most notably Steam, where it holds a Very Positive rating, calculated from a peak of 7883 players worldwide and 598 total reviews.

This is despite costing an eye watering $70, which should speak volumes as to the quality of the game on offer. It also managed to climb its way to the Top Sellers charts, standing in at number 4.

The Game Isnโ€™t Perfect, and Could Use Some Improvements

Ninja Gaiden 4 isnโ€™t a perfect game, but that’s to be expected – nothing rarely is. While Platinum Games and Team Ninja have both managed to deliver a very cohesive experience (in terms of combat and gameplay progression), certain elements feel like they hinder the game more often than not.

A perfect example of this would be in its campaign, which features far fewer stakes and can often be described as dull. Itโ€™s not a deal breaker though, but it is something you should keep in mind before you purchase the game for yourself.

Combat can also be frustratingly hard, (in true Ninja Gaiden fashion) which might be off putting for newcomers. That being said, most of these โ€˜issuesโ€™ are fairly minor and can be overlooked just as easily.

Ninja Gaiden 4 is a solid entry in the long running franchise, and even with its many, many quirks is quite an enjoyable experience. The game costing $70 is a bit of a sore point though, and it might be worth waiting for the eventual sale.

All You Need to Know About Ninja Gaiden 4

Ninja Gaiden 4 is an action adventure game, jointly developed by Platinum Games and Team Ninja. It was released on October 21, 2025 for both PCs and consoles (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S), being published by Xbox Game Studios.

Ninja Gaiden 4 is canonically the seventh mainline entry in Koei Tecmoโ€™s long running, ever popular Ninja Gaiden franchise and a direct sequel to 2012โ€™s Ninja Gaiden 3.

Interestingly, this particular Ninja Gaiden game deviates from the original formula by a fair margin, having a new protagonist thrown into the mix – Yakumo.

However, long time series protagonist Ryu Hayabusa also makes an appearance in the game, having a significant role in the campaign, in addition to being playable in certain segments.

Yakumo was introduced to make the game feel a lot more approachable to newcomers, which the game mostly succeeds in accomplishing. After all, this is perhaps the most accessible Ninja Gaiden yet, which is a good thing (more so when you consider that the game has a very in-depth, user configurable difficulty setting).

The game has since seen very positive reviews, and is shaping up to be an excellent game in its own right.
