Insomniac Games recently released a full length trailer for its upcoming game starring the iconic comic book anti-hero Wolverine, in what was a very gory showcase. The game has been in development for quite some time now, having previously suffered a major setback due to a series of hacks targeted toward Insomniac Games.
That being said, the developer has managed to recover lost time, and has shared a preview into the development of the game, and more importantly – its casting, especially with regards to the titular character.
Liam McIntyre Is Wolverine in Insomniac Games’ Newest Project
Marvel’s Wolverine has officially confirmed that Liam McIntyre is the voice of Wolverine aka James Logan Howlett. This bit of information was already rumored for quite some time now, but it’s nice to have some official confirmation on the same.
Liam is a skilled actor, having previously worked across a plethora of TV shows such as Spartacus (lead roles in Vengeance and War of the Damned), in addition to portraying the Weather Wizard in The Flash TV series, which aired on the CW network.
His work as a voice actor is far more impressive though, and Liam has lent his voice to multiple roles, including the likes of DC Animation (as Aquaman), American Dad! (multiple roles) and Family Guy (Issac).
Liam is also no stranger to working in video games, and has voiced JD Fenix in Gears of War 4, and the antagonist Taron Mailcos in the rather excellent Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
Going back to Insomniac’s Wolverine project, the team mentioned looking for someone with great vocal range, and someone who could deliver emotion with just his facial expressions. Liam proved to be the perfect cast for this, and the snippets showcase him working with facial capture technology to bring the character to life, which proved to be quite the task for the seasoned actor.
That being said, we did get a small glimpse at some of the other characters in the game, two whom appear to be Mystique and Sabertooth. Unfortunately, we really don’t know who is voicing the characters right now, as Insomniac has chosen to keep things under wraps.
How Does It Compare to 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine?
Marvel’s Wolverine appears to be an evolution of 2009’s rather excellent X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The former boasts upgraded visuals, a gory combat loop, and a much grander scope overall that does not appear to be constrained by its source material.
After all, X-Men Origins: Wolverine was a movie tie-in video game (even if it significantly deviated from its source material, choosing to make more than a few additions of its own).
Insomniac’s version seems to be free of such restrictions, and is very likely to be true to the comic books, which have a far greater number of ideas and stories to directly take ‘inspiration’ from.

Insomniac also seems to have thankfully chosen not to tone down the violence portrayed here, and Wolverine takes center stage with his adamantium claws, as he rips apart enemies brutally with no mercy.
As far as gameplay goes, there’s painfully little to base our assumptions on. However, given that this is an Insomniac game, we should at the very least expect a gripping narrative that ties well into Wolverine’s origin and overall lore.
Regenerating health is likely to be a key factor of the gameplay here, much like all prior Wolverine games, as is the heavy focus on melee, combo based combat (which appears to hold similarities to the X-Men Origins title).
