Rockstar Believes GTA 6 Will Be a Runaway Success Because It’s Too Big to Fail

  • Rockstar New York recently posted an opening, with work directed toward GTA 6.
  • The same posting mentions GTA 6 as being the biggest game launch in history.
  • We canโ€™t help but agree on this.p

Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to be released on May 26, 2026. The much anticipated entry in the Grand Theft Auto franchise has a lot to live up to, but even the smallest fumble could result in a disaster of epic proportions.

However, Rockstar Games seems rather enthusiastic about the matter, believing that GTA 6 will be a runaway success regardless, which is somewhat true when we consider the massive hype surrounding the game.

Rockstar Games Sees a โ€˜Continued Growthโ€™ for GTA 6

Rockstar Games recently posted a job posting for Rockstar New York, titled the โ€˜Lead Software Engineerโ€™ role for Data Engineering. The post goes into a lot of detail about the role and its responsibilities, but thereโ€™s a rather interesting mention of GTA 6 here.

In Rockstarโ€™s words, the growth of Grand Theft Online and the upcoming GTA 6 has created the need for a lead software designer who can lead a team of talented developers. The candidate will lead both the โ€˜evolution and operationโ€™ of the data platform โ€˜supportingโ€™ the โ€˜largest game launch in historyโ€™, for millions of players worldwide.

Clearly, Rockstar is very confident with regard to GTA 6, and is banking on its success. Theyโ€™re not wrong though, and GTA 6 is expected to really be the biggest game launch of all time.

GTA 6 Is Simply Too Big to Fail

Regardless of how GTA 6 fares critically, it is most certainly set to be a runaway success. The game has had years of marketing and anticipation leading up to it, and most would consider GTA 6 to be the most important release of the past decade (barring a possible Half-Life 3).

It has been over a decade since GTA 5 was launched, and that game (along with GTA Online) still commands a very impressive player count, in addition to generating a ton of revenue for Rockstar.

The first two official trailers for GTA 6 have managed to rack up some insane numbers, and players are clearly looking forward to its release. While GTA 6 will most certainly not be able to live up to all of its expectations, at the very least, it is expected to be an enjoyable game.

That’s as far as critical reception goes. For sales, Rockstar has quite literally nothing to worry about. GTA 6 will sell, and it will sell well. Expect it to smash existing sales records and create new benchmarks for games to come.

The game is simply too big to fail, but it’s the future that Rockstar needs to worry about.

Itโ€™s Future Games That Rockstar Needs to Worry About

GTA 6 is guaranteed to be a success regardless of its critical reception, but it shouldnโ€™t set a precedent. Assuming that GTA 6 turns out to be a disappointment, the public scrutiny on Rockstar Games will increase, along with generally negative public reception.

That is to say, players will not be kind toward Rockstar Gamesโ€™ future releases. Players will be more critical of future GTA (and other) games, which will force Rockstar to be a lot more careful with GTA 7 and the like.

All things considered though, this is going to take a good few years to come to this point. GTA 6 releases over a decade after GTA 5, so Rockstar does have time on its side, unless things go awry.

Other developers have tried to shy away from GTA 6โ€™s launch window, citing it as a necessity, given the gameโ€™s enormous presence. Rockstar does have a golden goose on its hands, and they are acutely aware of it.
