Key Highlights:
- New details of the next mainline God of War game have emerged online.
- These leaks detail a new weapon for Kratos.
- If anything, they point to what weโve already suspected for years.
Itโs been a few years since weโve seen a proper God of War game. Ragnarok was released nearly 3 years ago, and incorporated Norse mythology in a brand new saga for Kratos and his son, which turned out to be a massive success.
After the release of Ragnarok, many have wondered which direction the next mainline God of War games would take. A recent rumor seems to point to what we all suspected, that is, a shift to ancient Egyptian mythology.
New God of War Leaks Hint at an Egyptian Sword for Kratos
As per the recent โPlayStation State Of Play Next Week?โ video from Insider Gaming, Kratos is claimed to have what appears to be an Egyptian sword in the next game. This information comes courtesy of Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, who also happened to confirm that there is indeed a new mainline God of War game currently in development.
The game is expected to have โsimilar themesโ, which should mean that it will play out a lot similarly to the modern God of War titles, including the likes of Ragnarok. Expect there to be an emphasis on cinematic storytelling as well.
According to Tom Henderson, Kratosโ new weapon resembles a โcurved Egyptian swordโ, which is close to that of a scimitar. Itโs also been mentioned to resemble something out of a Prince of Persia game, which does sound rather intriguing.
All things considered, these line right up with what we were expecting. In a nutshell, the next God of War game (a mainline title at that) will feature Kratosโ journey into ancient Egypt, where players will explore the mythology and deities of the region.
When Can We Expect a Reveal?
As far as reveals go, thereโs not a whole lot to go by, unfortunately. The source has not mentioned a possible release date just yet, so we will just have to be patient and see.
That being said, the game is said to be knee deep in development, which is a good sign of things to come. Personally, I believe we could see an announcement sometime later next year, followed by a proper gameplay reveal in 2027.

All things considered, donโt expect anything before 2028. This is assuming that the game does not suffer from any unforeseen delays or complications during its development cycle, which could very well delay it further.
Thereโs a New PlayStation State of Play Coming Soon
As detailed within the same video (mentioned previously), PlayStation might be set to launch a new State of Play sometime later next week. Exact details on the event appear to be pretty scarce at the moment, but there have been quite a few leaks from credible sources that point to the same.
Perhaps the biggest, most anticipated reveal for this monthโs State of Play would be in the new Wolverine game, developed by Insomniac Games. Insomniac is noted for creating the excellent Marvelโs Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 games, and this title takes place in the same, shared universe.
Expect there to be a teaser of the game during the event.
Donโt go expecting a teaser for the new God of War game just yet though. If we are extremely lucky, we could see a title card and a brief presentation of the upcoming game, but this is based on pure speculation. As such, keep your expectations in check and prepare to be disappointed.
Weโre also hoping to see more updates from Insomniac Games, as well as maybe a teaser for Naughty Dogโs upcoming Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
